2025 draft spec

Not sure if it’s too early to start lol but with potentially 2 top 10 picks next year it feels pertinent. @noobermensch Any players you have your eyes on for Essendon next year?

Would be nice having Duursnas brother at the club, but i hope he puts more meat on his bones over the year. He looks very thin.

death riding saints and melbourne the official thread.

Would love one of those 190cm mids. We are due to pick one up. Feels like Jobe retired decades ago.

Hopefully we get one or two top ten selections next year.

Decent number of tall mids in that initial list.
Gee it’d be nice if they came on and we were able to grab one (or two).

The draft content never sleeps. Louis Emmett is one of the most intriguing talents in the 2025 pool. A 198cm forward/ruck who competes hard and loves to fly for marks. Moves really well for his size, is excellent at ground level and loves to attack the game.

It would be interesting where the draftees from the 2024 version of this were drafted.

Trade f1 & f1 & player for
Reid & Jimmi Neutron.

Do we really need more clearance players? Fine if they bring kicking skills or x-factor, but otherwise I wouldn’t say it’s a need.

I would argue that we are not as stacked with midfield depth as people make out we are. We did well at the start of the year with clearances, but we struggled after the bye. Not enough blokes going through there and wore our guys out. Also wont hurt to have a point of differece/verasitily in the midfield.

By no means should we be settling with the midfield group we have now. Keep topping them up.

Setterfield is a big bodied mid, but he is injury prone and it feels like he is a very limited player. I dont see him at the club long term.

From a pure numbers perspective? Maybe not.
But if you can’t see the benefit of an actual big bodied clearance player being added to our mix, then I’m going to start believing you really are Dodoro.

Never too early when your an Essendon supporter.

I’ve just started a new 2042 draft thread. It currently just ultrasounds of embryos of Essendon players wives.

Some real positive signs already.

We are stacked with the same sort of midfielders. We need class, that’s what this team is lacking.

yep. unless your looking at getting a specialist

just think of him as a younger Setterfield without the injuries, first year talent, can provide depth, but also have versatilitty to play other roles - forward etc.

our list balance is probably better than it ever was under Dodoro.

The only thing we are surplus in is midget mids.
Caldwell 184cm
Hobbs 183cm
Parish181cm
Sheil, Merrett 180cm

This years draft is a nice improvement unless Brad Scott starts playing KAKO on ball.
Johnson 186cm def/mid
Wicks 186cm fwd/mid
Clarke 189cm def/wing
Unwin 179cm & Kako 176cm is ok as specialist forwards not mids.

Onley, thanks

Kind of sucka that a high percentage of the midfield types here are academy players.

Depending how next year goes the need for a R/F or pure ruck might to be there.

I’d be looking for the most genuinely classy mid/utility with genuine size. Back in the day Sheedy wanted to biggest guys he could get when there was a choice. We got away from that over the last 15 years. I want our team to be much bigger going forward, so given that and the current balance (including guys like Kako etc) I think class and size (and skill and athletic profile) are my priorities.

I really rate Dyson Sharpe……watched him play for Centrals in the SANFL and did not look out of place at all against the bigger bodies.
