Some good clunks in there. Takes the sealer pretty well as well!
Dougie is a bottom ager. Time to cash in all our draft capital to try and secure pick 1 in 2026.
Even considering the relatively weaker SANFL U18s competition, this was one of the best junior performance I’ve seen. Dougie slotted 6 majors of his own, set up a number of others for his teammates, took contested marks, laid tough bumps and tackles… what can’t this kid do? There were several moments that I had to rewind to check that I did actually see what I thought I saw.
Dougie will do his best Archie Perkins impersonation. Doesn’t want to leave SA and only wants to play for Port. Port have even been trying to look at NGA loopholes for him

I really don’t know. Perhaps on a wing or a flank?
Its a difficult one I feel. He’s tough and strong in the contest so you’d probably want to give him opportunities to utilize that, but at 175cm tall he’s up against it to become an inside mid at AFL level.
Given that apart from @Bully the rest of us have only seem him play these two games, and he’s only played mid, we haven’t seen if he can play other roles yet.
I think I’m going to find Sweid a difficult one to assess this year.
I don’t mind smaller mids. As long as they have the strength to compete. I don’t think there’s any evidence to say Mids NEED to be tall.
High half fwd, Dylan Moore style?
How’s his tank?
Perhaps not, but there’s also only one pure mid that’s under 180cm in the comp right now as far as I’m aware… which must mean something.
Quite a few - Neale, Serong, Viney, Rowell, Merrett, Miller, Soligo off the top of my head.
Serong and Rowell are 180, the others are close to that. Sweid would be the shortest mid in the league.
Into a midfield that’d already shorter than most too
It’s kinda why i didn’t see him as the type of kid that would get drafted. He’s a smaller height mid with no real stand out attributes, which typically lends itself to being a really good vfl footballer.
In saying that, he seems to have somehow elevated his game off the back of a knee reco and the hype created by the experts online, should see him get at least a category b gig now.
Smaller mids are slightly more popular in the afl now than past years, sweid is strong through the hips and tries hard, the type of guy that will work his backside off and lay 10 tackles a game. I can’t really picture him in any other role though, but he hasn’t really been tried elsewhere that I’ve seen.
Huss has always been a big goal kicker, even as a mid. I think he even won the league goal kicking from the midfield in the edfl one year too. So his obvious one wood at afl level will be as a small forward. Sweid I’m not so sure what role the efc would see for him.
Jesus… he is 16? How is he kicking it 60m. Isn’t that the Tassie draft?
No its next year, 2026, so one before Tassie.
A quieter performance this week from Willem, but he still played his role and impacted the contest in a good win for his Power team. He started deep forward this week and might have spent a bit more time there than on the ball. His cracked in hard in contested situations and applied strong defensive pressure as always, the main concern again was his disposal efficiency which he struggled with, although once again it was a very windy day which made things difficult.
Archie Ludowyke put in an excellent performance and booted the winning goal in a fun back and forth, end to end contest. His hands were mostly assured, and he burned off his opponent to create space on the lead a number of times. What might have been most impressive were his excellent pressure efforts throughout the game that caused fumbles and turnovers.
We definitely need someone like him to partner caddy
Pretty exciting lineup taking on Richmond VFL this week!
@noobermensch anyone you like at the pointy end missing?
Given the squad is decided well before the season starts its typically the kids that emerge early in the season that are unlucky to miss out. No Sweid of course, no Rory Wright who’s started really well for Sandy or Hunter Wright for the Pioneers who’s looking like he might be a good one.
Often there are injuries so they can bring in one or two of those early bolters.
Typically there are a few Vic based kids that are unlucky as they like to balance the number of kids from each region and not all regions have a worthy group each year, but this year WA, SA and the Allies are all pretty strong and Metro/Country relatively weak.
