You had me at ‘elite kicking’
You keep that man’s name out of your trade discussing mouth
A solid performance from Lindsay who returned to his customary half back role and looked assured even with the step up against more mature opposition. He was strong in aerial contests and for the most part composed with the ball, although he did misjudge a couple of kicks in the windy conditions.
The more I read up on Aaron Sharkie the more I think he is a perfect fit for our backline.
Matt Le Ray is another I think would suit us
The 2 wrights are also pushing their case
Could you tell us a bit about them?
This could and probably should have been an amazing, match winning performance from Huss who looked super dangerous every time the ball went into the Cannons forward line. Unfortunately, he only managed to kick 3 goals 5 behinds, including 2 out on the full, most of them from very gettable opportunities.
Wow, he could’ve easily had 6.
This kid looks to be an absolute jet. Similar to Kako, he turns half chances into scoring opportunities. Has great awareness in the contest.
The idea of a forward line of Kako and Huss is mouthwatering.
Been Essingtoned already. Fit in perfectly!
That ground is so windy, i reckon the majority of games I’ve seen there blow a gale. You can see his confidence is up by how many shots he is taking.
I saw a description online today that said ‘he is lightning quick’, which isn’t very accurate, he’s just so clever though, it’s why he’s always racked up so many possessions as a midfielder, good old ‘Ha sheen el ashka’.
I think that wanker they call the wizard kicked 12 points before finally nailing his first.
10 shots at goal is a terrific effort. ‘Only’ 3 goals is forgivable given the conditions.
Terrible performance. Totally overhyped. He is only worth a late pick at best or Cat B rookie…. Am I doing this right?
Matt LeRay @Aceman well have seen him a fair bit I’d imagine. 189cm balanced midfielder, has played most positions in the middle and wing, captain of central and the Aussie junior cricket team.
Sharkie is a 183cm defender/midfielder,
Round 1 rookie me write up.
Sharkie was one of the Chargers’ busiest and most consistent operators throughout the day, accumulating possessions quite seamlessly. While prone to dumping the ball under pressure at times, he began to work into dangerous launch zones and waxed well with his teammates – seemingly working in constant motion between his midfield and defensive roles
Round 2 rookie me write up.
Oakleigh’s leading possession getter on the ground, Sharkie physically used his body smartly to deny his opponent in contests. He spread well to provide options for teammates while rotating between the backline and on-ball. Has strong hands and juggled a good intercept mark in the first quarter. He then showed excellent vision in the second quarter to hit up Flynn Woolhouse for a mark and a goal. Sharkie covered the ground exceptionally well while showing excellent vision again where he switched the footy from one side of the forward 50 to the other side to hit up Mingara Clark for an assist where he easily could have gone for goal himself. He has a beautiful kicking action and is not afraid to look laterally for better options.
Round 3 he had another 26
What I like about Huss and Sweid is they take the short option in the forward half, it’s something that is uncomfortable to defend as opposed to the monotonous bombing deep to a pack.
But defences that have to cover the short kick will also be more vulnerable to the long bomb.
Getting that mix right and then having a couple of natural crumbing players like Huss and Kako that can generate shots on goals from loose balls that have been brought to ground.
Considering the tall options we have at the moment that are better on hit up leads, we need those skillful smalls that will be able to hit them up, it also incentives the leading forwards to make repeats runs.
The three of them are also a good mix of style. Huss looks like a perfect crumbing player, whereas Kako has that ability to present on leads and Sweid will likely have to settle in as that craft contested HF who rolls up into the midfield.
All three of them are well built, tackle well and can stand up in a tackle and dispose of the ball.
Whilst short they compare well with the giants small forwards of Daniels 171, Jones 175cm and Thomas 176cm. Can throw Greene in there as well.
Kosi Picket is only 171cm, if you are good enough you are tall enough. Shorties are trending in AFL attacks currently.
Our other nga had a pile of it too
Northern Knights
CALDER CANNONS 0.2 | 3.6 | 7.10 | 10.13 (73)
NORTHERN KNIGHTS 3.3 | 7.3 | 9.5 | 12.6 (78)
IN A SENTENCE:
In an emphatic response to last week’s loss to Oakleigh, Northern Knights kicked six of the first seven goals to set up a fighting five-point road win over Calder Cannons.
WHERE IT WAS WON:
Northern Knights won the disposals (299-256), marks (98-59), and rebound 50s (42-20)
Calder Cannons won the inside 50s (52-32) and scoring shots (23-18)
BY THE NUMBERS:
Calder Cannons
Adam Sweid – 30 disposals, 9 tackles, 6 clearances
Felix Kneipp – 24 disposals, 5 tackles, 5 inside 50s
Hussien El Achkar – 17 disposals, 3 goals, 5 behinds
Northern Knights
Ryan Commandeur – 26 disposals, 10 marks, 9 rebound 50s
Harvie Cooke – 20 disposals, 4 clearances, 2 goals
Hugh White – 19 disposals, 8 marks, 2 goals
Needs to clean up his work below his knees a bit, a few to many double grabs in the deck for my liking
He toweled up Hawkins, did you think he was going to Geelong?
Even though we need another small forward now thank goodness we didn’t get another one in the 2024 draft/trade period given we got the 2 Calder boys coming through this year.
Yes unwin is a small forward but was a pick in the late 50s.
Before we traded our pick 1 people on here wanted us to nab kako and joe berry
I kept mentioning Huss was coming, but folks wanted the small forward then and there
