2025 FF Original Discussion thread

A late review (lifes been a little more chaotic than I intended).

The Hotdons are deep into a hard 3yr reset, the moving of Max Gawn was the last of the real big ticket of the old regime (Yeo is the last standing man if anyone needs a mid season pick up).

Armed with three picks inside 21 our aim was purely elite talents, with a preference at forwards and backs (if within reason of the pick).

1st round

Pick 3 - Sid Draper mid Adelaide.
I was torn between him and Harvey Langford. But having Oliver and Windsor already on the list I just couldn’t load up on another Demon.

Pick 12- Bo Allen def/mid WCE.
I needed two defenders to field a full team.
Bo is able to cover two lines and had good junior numbers and in the WAFL, he will play early, and is just a beast.

2nd round

Pick 21- Taj Hotton fwd Rich.
A truly insane scorer as a junior, I had fwd line issues all last year and it’s still my weakest line.
He is a long term solution and I will need to exercise patience (as I’ve also had to with Ed Allan).

3rd round

Pick 39- Joe Richards fwd Port.
I wanted to trade for Joe last year, but I got my man eventually. Smart player who pushes up and can regularly find himself with 20 and a goal.
New home with more responsibility, could prove fruitful.

4th round

Pick 57- Sam Marshall mid Bris
One of the head scratchers for me, an elite player who won best on ground honours in the futures game and best on in sandys coates league GF. A true accumulator that I was mind blown to see at 57. Didn’t need a mid here but couldn’t say no.

Pick 66- Brennan Cox def Fre.
A player I actually traded for in my 1st ever trade in this league. Only dropped him due to his lengthy hammy last year. Glad to have big Cox back.

5th round

Pick 79- Jordan Croft Fwd Dogs.
Needed a starter here for the fwd line. Jordan played well in each pre season match, couple that with the dogs injuries and we had a winner.
Just hope he doesn’t pick up mid status to soon as he looks to be a winger nowadays.

Pick 87- Cooper Hynes mid Dogs.

I wanted Zak Johnson really bad here, but had to settle for another speculative mid I enjoyed watching in Coates League. I think he may pick up some games and maybe fwd status.

8th rd
Pick 129- Max Hall fwd/mid StK.
The dual position got me over the line with this selection. Not huge on him but appears he may play.

Pick 135- Orazio Fantasia fwd scum.
He had a decent pre season and looks in their plans. I just needed someone who will play.

I loved the ceiling on most picks, and it was nice to get most guys I had circled at each number.
Need some injury cruelled players to find some luck, and that should see the Hotdons fly up the ladder

Getting Hotton at 21 could prove to be the pick of the draft. I was desperately hoping he’d slide a couple more picks. As you said, his junior numbers are top end. If not for the ACL, he surely would’ve gone early first round.

Love your first three picks.

I was hoping to get him my pick 39 and take Murphy Reid, but got to nervous he was going to get nabbed.

Thanks mate, I was pretty exited they panned out. But it’s all darts at a board and crossing your fingers

For some weird reason, I thought more teams were to be named tonight.
Only Carlton and Richmond.

Glad Cooper Lord and Sonsie were named. Hopefully they dodge the sub vest.

Am sweating on tomorrow’s team releases. Not picking up a backup ruck is going to be a weekly adventure.

I was looking at Murphy Reid, but I don’t think he played in the second praccy match. Not sure if he played in the first.

Yeah he played both, scored 60 in the second.
I caught some Freo training last month while in WA and he looks right at home amongst the 1st boys.

Looks like as soon as a game starts, any free agent playing for that team becomes an RFA.
That means no capability to pick up a player who smashes the first half of the game.

Unsure whether the 2 day waiver period starts now or at the end of the round.

Also, it doesn’t tell you who’s in the extended squads for the Sunday game.

The team selection part has been very slow.
SuperCoach was up with it at 6:30pm.
It’s 7:30pm and DT still has not done half the teams.

Edit…
It also didn’t pick up on who the subs were tonight.
If you are relying on the app, you’re no hope.
I’m pretty sure they got the sub icon thing worked all year last year.

Is the app live scoring for anyone?

Nup.
Match centre is not working at all either.
Would be handy when it does to be able to filter your team and who you’re playing.

I was wondering if live scoring was only available to people that pay the thing…

Gonna be annoying if you can’t follow live…

Goddamnit, Docherty’s got the vest.
Great start. swearword

Scores are up now for me.

Thanks for all your hard work getting this off the ground this year. Definitely hasn’t been easy for you but appreciate all the effort.

Oh do you know if we will use IR like the other league?

There’s no injury reserve spot on your list.
Any injuries are held within your 30.
I’m keen to see what’s left in the free agency pool. I expect rucks to be depleted. Plenty of mids. Just not sure how the forwards and defenders will pan out.

I like this method as well. The FA pool is thin enough without stripping more players from it through IR.

There’s two ways to look at it.
You’d think that an IR would mean scoring players would be taken away from FA.
But it’ll also take as many prospects out of it (even though that’s pretty thin).

I don’t think anyone is in a huge rush to grab a weekly playing 50 scoring defender or forward unless they are short on the field. So if it isn’t affecting their weekly scoring, they’d lean towards stashing another prospect.

Last season I used those crappy defenders who played on Friday night as an emergency loophole just incase they scored better than my worst on field defender. It worked two or three times for memory.

I still haven’t heard back from AFL Fantasy tech team, but they have added the waiver order onto the app.
It’s under Players, then RFAs.

I’m now thinking each game that starts will lock those players in FA and turn them into RFAs. At the end of the round the 2-day waiver period will begin and the reverse ladder of the previous round will apply to RFAs. Interesting to note that Awesome_Scotty picking up Hastie last night shows up as ‘round 2’ rather than pre-season.

In general, that sounds great.
The downside is, if a player is dropped on Thursday or Friday (as has been the case this week), they go into a 2-day waiver system. But if they play before the 2-days is up, I’m not sure you can pick them up. And because it’s unsure when the RFA 2 day period ends, you don’t know which player you should drop. So you’re more likely to have to wait until the end of round 2-day waiver.
The same result would have occurred when we were handling it through Blitz.

Luckily this year there aren’t any weird Tuesday or Wednesday games as the waiver system could overlap with another round beginning.
