2025 FF Original Discussion thread

Well done split! Solid effort to come in and get results so fast mate.

Huge thanks to @Blummers32 you do a mountain of work to keep this going, it’s not unnoticed. Hope we can keep things rolling as smoothly next year

Erm. On that. Now is probably as good as any to announce.

I’ll be leaving the competition as of next season. I’ll still be around Blitz unless I get banned though, so I’m not intending to disappear.

Personally, I’ve been aiming to leave the competition at some point since 2020. it is weird because during the FF finals series, I kept an eye on my list and started planning for keepers next year, but then last weekend came around and I finally thought it’s time to move from the competition, give someone else a chance to run with it and I’ll enjoy other parts of AFL footy that I’ve slowly crept towards in the last 4 or 5 years. In the past, by now, I’d have my B&F already sorted and I’d follow it through the year using an xls spread sheet and track my team and certain players through the year, but this year, I just found other things to focus on than DT. Even through the year, I just didn’t put as much effort in VFL, SNFL and WAFL as previous years and I’ve completely ignored U18s as well which hasn’t happened in previous years. I’m actually fine to pass my team on to another coach and let them deal with whatever the hell I’ve created.

Big thanks to @Allblack and @You_Shall_Be_Smoten for helping out with admin tasks since Dunlop moved away from the comp.

There will be an opportunity for someone to take on the admin side of things. I’m fine for coaches to nominate who their preferred admin is, but after discussing it with Smoten, the user handling the $ side of things needs to be in Australia otherwise it just gets too difficult to transfer $ around. It’s easier to deal with Wise for a few coaches, than to try and deal with it with the majority. I also think it should be a ‘Blitz regular’ as that’s how this competition was founded.

There is less to do now than ever before as an admin. There’s just creating the comp, setting up the draft, dealing with empty spots in the 18 scores (AFL Fantasy doesn’t default to a bench cover at the moment) and collecting & send $$$ around for prizes. As I suggested earlier this year, I’d let the platform deal with bye round scores. There is just too much that can go wrong and a lot of effort goes into those rounds in particular just to update the scores in time for FAs the following week.

Sometime over the next month or so, I’ll begin screenshotting lists for the roster thread and setting up the draft order prior to next season’s trade period so whoever takes over can pick it up from a base and run with it (or smash it up and do it their way).

Thanks to all coaches for putting in the time and effort to make this competition as great as possible. It’s been a challenging competition which makes it fun and it’s rare that you have a competition running for 20 or so years with a handful of coaches still remaining from the beginning and the majority of coaches staying in the competition for at least 15 years.

Wow - sad to see you go @Blummers32, thank you for your mgnificent contributions to the comp in leading the way as admin in what is often a thankless task. Most of all thank you for just being a great coach and person to have in the comp, it’s always sad to see an OG leave. What’s it been, like almost 20 years? ■■■■ that’s crazy! No chance you’d stay as just a normal coach?

Nah. I do make some lousy decisions in FF. Drafting used to be a strength, but that’s dwindled. I’m terrible at trading as well. It’s a great comp and I loved the challenge of building the team and watching it develop, but I’ve slowly lost whatever minor edge I used to have a decade ago.

I’ve been hanging on since the year before covid and probably made some of my worst decisions in that period. Weirdly, I thought I’d more than likely leave the Fantasy Footy comp and not follow footy altogether. But I’ve actually lost interest in Fantasy Footy altogether and found more of an interest in watching footy differently (just as a hobby) without having stats being so primary.

I will be lurking around, but most likely not as much. Just a handful of posts per week seems to work better for me. Still like reading other people opinions on how they see things, even when they are the complete opposite of my opinion.

It looks like AFL AFL Fantasy has closed for the year.

Luckily, I took a screen grab of rosters a few weeks ago.

Link is here:

I’ll go through and include the picks available to teams after last year’s trade period in that thread.

It looks like the other comp is moving over to Keeper.
A friend of mine was in a comp on that and he said it was a perfectly fine alternative to what we were used to (UF).
Even SuperCoach is better and more trustworthy than AFL Fantasy.

We’re going to need a new commissioner. No one stepped forward when it was announced so it’s still vacant.

I’m assuming as we get close to February, someone will be shoved into the position.
Unfortunately, I still have no interest in DT.

The other league has found a site.

I’m happy to help in some capacity but Wim seriously can’t computer.

I’ll put my hand up to help as commish or any other role that is needed to run the comp
