Equalisation!
To help make these double-up games as fair as possible, the AFL uses a âweighted ruleâ, where the 18 clubs are split into three groups of six based on their ladder position the previous year â first to sixth, seventh to 12th and 13th to 18th.
Each club is then allocated their double-up games based on these groups. The goal is for each club to play twice against 2-3 teams in the same group and twice against 1-2 teams in the other groups.

We really could do without all this âfixturingâ business. Iâve noticed over the proceeding years that Essendon looks good, right up until itâs time theyâre fixtured to play another team.
Fixturing to play any team at any level is hurting Essendon badly and should be abolished.

To be fair, the way our club is run, we canât hold any hope to be consistently competitive.

No we donât the only top 6 teams are Geelong and Swams. We got 3 from out group GC Carlton and WB. Dogs and Blues finished 7th and 8th.
Contract finished with Marvel yet weâre still playing the same amount of home games at Marvel.

5 x 6 day breaks
3 x 5 day breaks
in the first 16 rounds is a pretty big challenge, with 5 of our 6 interstate trips for the year during that time as well. Hope weâre fit!
Like that we got Tiges twice and avoided playing Freo & Bris twice.

Our first bye at R4 certainly helps with this imo.
Iâm fine with the harder draw for the same reason I was fine with Jake leaving.
Weâll get exposed to harder conditions and either bottom out with a good draft pick or hopefully actually rise to the occasion and start turning things around.
The soft draw of last year did us few favors in the end.

our contract was till end of 2024
