At glance those short breaks look pretty tough. It’s actually not too bad, 5 days after Geelong in Melbourne round 14 we play Freo on Thursday night in Perth. Seems like a stitch up but actually Freo are coming off the same break (3 hours shorter in fact).
Most of our short breaks our opponents don’t have a significant advantage in terms of their break. More often than not we actually have the longer break.
Same break but Freo are playing at home the week before (One of the home games purchased from North) Also have a bye the week before that.
Makes up for that 3 hours and then some.
Carlton get Norf and WCE twice, and us at the end of August. Talk about being given 5 easy wins lol.
In all seriousness, I like that fixture. Lions at the Gabba, Swans twice, and Geelong twice (including fkn Kardinia Park), means there’s nowhere to hide.
Thats utter horse ■■■■■ Ace. The club have been campaigning for it for two years and thought they had it. Even St Kilda get their extra MCG home game and they’re a small club.
It’s a reflection on Essendon’s fall from grace off field (as well as on field). The admin are weak and not aggressive enough and lack competence. It’s a fail on them. There’s nearly nobody in that commercial team that are absolute go getters and results prove it.
The double ups vs GCS and WB probably rule it out as much as anything.
Games vs those two are not going to be played at the MCG. If we’d have got two games vs Melbourne or Collingwood instead, may have been given that 5th MCG game.
It has nothing to do with the combination of teams we play that has determined the extra MCG game not being delivered. It’s simply the Club not landing their business plan, not getting what they’ve been lobbying for in the last 2+ years.
As I said, Carlton landed their ‘ask’. St Kilda have secured an extra MCG home game the last 2-3 years and Essendon haven’t.
Essendon’s commercial team aren’t strong and this result demonstrates this in a key initiative that meant a lot to the majority of its members.
