We don’t have a deal, and for that you can blame the board
We disagree on things but on this, you’re 100% correct.
Essendon’s deal has expired. The Board and senior leaders have known this for years. The club, confident it would achieve its desired mix of 5/6 (MCG/Marvel) was open about its confidence and direction publicly. Yet, it still failed.
To me that’s speaks of incompetence, lack of focus, lack of capability or all of the above.
So if I understand correctly, the club didn’t inform the members of its plan and when that plan failed, it didn’t address the outcome or what the new contract is with members.
And now we’re all wondering what the new contract is and how it was reached.
Happy to be corrected but is that the gist of it?
The club have been upfront with members for several years about its ‘plan’ to secure an additional MCG home game from 2025. It indicated throughout this year it was hopeful of securing this. The release of the fixture showed it had failed to deliver on uts plan. There’s been no explanation at all from the club about why it didn’t deliver the home game as hoped.
What do you want them to say? Ultimately they can lobby as much as they like but it’s beyond their control.
One extra game at the G isn’t a hill to die on at the moment for mine.
We should be 100% focused on getting everything that goes into on field performance right and trying to set new standards for the comp in how we scout, recruit, trade, list manage, develop, train and coach our players.
That’s how we turn around the last 20 years of mediocrity and everything off field will flow from being successful on field again, including an extra game or two at the MCG.
We shouldn’t be taking any shortcuts to success either but I have zero confidence we won’t try.
The bare minimum I reckon
I can’t attend Thursday Night games either.
Tuesday Feb 25th Pre-season game v Geelong at GHMBA.
Assume we will play an unofficial practice game the week prior as well Saturday 15th or Sunday 16th Feb.
Why do we have to always play those farks in Geelong in a pre season game how about for once they come to the hangar and play
Because only one of those grounds has seating and is set up for TV broadcast.
Ikon Park will do or Marvel
I had to check which year was in the thread title
It’s a practice game. Unless you are planning on attending (which you don’t) why does it matter?
I would go but dont want to travel to geelong.
Cant remember the last time we played at Marvel for a practice game feels like years
At least we are playing a diffrent team in the Bulldogs the last few years its been Geelong and Saints
2 five day breaks suck.
That usually leads to injury or poor performance.
Otherwise it’s good that the draw is tough.
We have two first round picks and a young team who need experience playing good sides. Perfect development year draw.
Bring it.
Give us an easy draw like say the Swans or Carlton when we are genuinely up and about and a proper finals contender.
I hope we dont treat it as a development year we should be aiming to play finals. if we cant get there in the end due to being a young team then that’s fine
The draw will give the team development. That’s what I mean
How does a side get better?
Playing top four sides or Richmond and Westcoast?
Cmon, Nino. Geelong isn’t that far.
Ahh that i agree
How many games did you actually rock up to this season?
