Liam McMahon is logically the only tall we could call up to play in defence against Carlton. So, what do we do? We play a backline of 190cm+ players including Hoare, Gallagher, Akuei, Sellers and Gerreyn for most of the game, with McMahon spending about 10 minutes back there. The stupidity involved really boggles the mind.

Given Gerreyn played back surely he is also an option.

I probably only saw 2-3 quarters in-and-out but thought Davey looked ok? Saw some good tackles & pressure, snagged one and set up a couple of others.

EDIT: 7 tackles, equal 2nd most in the ground

Any short steps though? I was pleased against the tigers it was the first time I’d ever watched him at Essendon not noticeably pull out of contests. If he can rectify this we have a player, but it’s such a major flaw in ones game to fix.

That’s why I would love to see that in afl we are young so it would be great for their development to hear that direct feedback in game

7 tackles is fantastic, definitely a change for him.
If he can replicate that every week, he should play in the seniors, regardless of what else he does.

Tbh I didn’t watch enough of the full game to know for sure but from the bits I saw, I thought he looked to be competing harder in the contest.

Overall it’s been pretty noticeable all season that Daveys been competing harder than previously.

Has still had some moments you wish he wouldn’t though.

Given where his career is at, a couple of games wouldn’t hurt. I wouldn’t be holding my breath though.
