2026 Captain Discussion

Who would you choose for captain next year and why?

This should be a poll…

Keep Merrett Captain. Why?

  1. To give him the incentive to give everything and continue to be an on-field inspiration.
  2. Show him he’s still loved and he has a future at EFC
  3. Reduce the possibility of him wanting to try and leave again

The players should vote on it and have every player listed as an option except Zach.

I vote for Captain McCaptainface

Zach absolutely cannot be considered for captain. Needs to be Pidge with two of Caldwell/Marto/Duz

I NEED THE THICCCEST CAPTAIN YOU’VE GOT.

NO, THAT’S TOO THICCCC.

Hell no. To your points:

  1. That’s not what motivates him, it’s pretty well established by now. He’ll play well because this year is a sales pitch for his talents.

  2. He has burned a lot of capital, he will mostly get indifference. While there’s plenty to play out, if he can’t see the regeneration of the team and what that means for the future, that is on him.

  3. Like that made one scrap of different last time, with two years to run on a contract too. It means nothing to him.

If he wasn’t broken, I’d pick Nick Martin in a heartbeat.

We need both talent and intelligence at the helm. His journey to find his way onto our list is also inspirational.

Otherwise I’d like to see Langford, because I think he displays real passion and grit when he gets amongst it.

Pidge is too nice and polite.

He can’t be captain mate.

He took a massive â– â– â– â–  on the club and his team mates a month ago. We need to stand for something and make him earn the trust back without any titles.

He’s never been a particularly good captain. Great player, but that’s a different thing

It will 100% be McGrath

No idea who it should be though, except it definitely shouldn’t be Merrett

The only thing we don’t know yet is who will be vice-captain and who will be on the leadership team.

The club has been soft launching McGrath through the media for weeks so there’s that.
