I know Arki’s a bomber, but if we had the choice and we lose Merrett and Parish, who do we choose Noah Williams or Arki Butler?
Williams is a gun from all I’ve seen.
My gut instinct is Arki. Ive watched him in person a few times and one was amaziing and two were just okay but there is something about his perfect positioning and perfect skills that just makes me think he will be great at AFL level.
I can just see Mark Mercuri in Arki.
Something about him just seems elegant and smooth, yet comes with an edge when he’s feeling it and playing well.
It’s hard work trying to get through 20+ beers a day over here. Coping fine currently and the weather is helping
Noober, l have a little problem with your write ups. You make each player sound so good, that l end up wanting us to draft them all. Please don’t change, it is as l said, my problem.
Yes he has that - its just perfect positioning and perfect movement and technique. One on one if he gets the ball in the forward 50 he is supurb. I saw him run to 55 metres and bomb one through and his movement just speaks of someone who has trained and practiced every day since he was 4. Its just so perfect.
I totally understand the HVH being the best but I really hope Arki sets thet champs alight and moves to number 1 so we can justify bringing him in.
There is an intentional difference between my single game writeups and when I make a wider draft pool focused analysis video or writeup.
With the single games I try to be positive and focus on the good things the players did, the positive traits. I will mention it if there’s a clear negative, but try not to focus on it too much. I know that the young lads themselves and their relatives very often watch those videos so I don’t want to be too critical. Also, I’m typically cherry picking strong performances from the weekends games so selection bias will tend to push it to be more positive.
Ranking writeups/videos are where I tend to be more balanced and cover positives and negatives more equally.
I think I saw Dylan Alexander do a video discussing the differences on Arki Butler and Noah Williams on YouTube.
IMO, I’m still leaning towards a more attacking forward/midfielder, and would want to have some insight on what we do with the likes of Perkins, Gresham and others. A stronger case can be made for Williams if we move on Merrett who is also that but more undersized midfielder. There are some other options outside of Butler in Teixiera, Neocleous, even Templeton or Patterson to somewhat address the need for him similarly. Would be stoked if we ended up with two of Drever, Butler, Teixeira, Neocleous and even others in Snell, Herbert or HVH, but I don’t trust how Essendon manage their taller players development.
Thanks for the reply and important distinction.
There is a cannon that needs loading.
I’m not sure how the mechanics of a trade would would work, but I’d be trying hard to split pick 1 NVH in the hope you could bank both Arki Butler (e.g pick 5) & Neocleous (e.g pick 12).
Badly need forward half class.
Just have to look at Adelaide, Brisbane, Hawks and Dees to see how they’ve used a lot of draft capital to stack their medium small forward stocks.
The new rules make splitting pick 1 much more unappealing. And it was really hard to choose to do even before the new rules.
I cannot see it happening, under any circumstances.
Why? In previous years clubs have been made offers like pick 2 & 3 for 1… Why would you not consider that? You would still get your end of first round compo for Cochrane/Walker. At this stage we could end up with pick 1 (personally doubt it) and then a cluster at the end of the first round/start of second. I would certainly consider swapping say 5 top 25 picks (incl pick 1) for 4 top 15 picks, provided we had two top five (before Cochrane/Walker). Butler, Teixeira, Drever & Snell for example could add a lot to our re-build…
No one team has the picks you are suggesting in the top 10. Can do a 3 way, which I’m always all in for, but more complicated.
Unless I’m mistaken, you need to keep your original pick position in the top 5 to get the end of round compensation pick. Makes it less appealing to move a top 5 pick.
That’s correct you have to keep and use your pick in the top 5 to be then given the end of first round compo pick at the start of night 2. Makes no sense at all for clubs to trade between themselves in the top 5 and you’ll need to pay massive overs to trade into the top 5.
The only exceptions will be if Port or the Blues end up with a top 5 this year, as their picks will be consumed by bids, they will not get the end of 1st round compo, so may be more open to a trade.
A request for a look at a young lad that probably should have been featured on the channel before now. Benji Van Rooyen is the third of the Van Rooyen brood to come up through the Claremont Colts program in recent seasons and towers over his brothers at 203cm. In this game he showed how competitive he is in ruck duels, and his willingness to scrap at ground level post tap. He took a few solid marks around the ground, moved well for such a big lad, and looms as an interesting watch when the Champs kick off a little over a week from now.
