2026 draft thread - WE ARE NOT TRADING OUR FIRST PICK! READ THE NEW DRAFT RULES

do we take the risk of trading our first pick next year for West Coast’s 1st pick this year? then take Hawthorn’s first pick (16ish) next year for Merrett and trade 21/25 this year for Collingwood or similar club first pick next year around pick 10.

We’re left with pick 1(HVH) and 5(Butler) this year plus pick 19 and maybe 20 if we get assistance.

then 2027 could have picks 10/16 (big gamble is they could go up or down within the first round) but these would be enough to get Bewick with some change

How do you think we would get both HVH and Butler; presuming you mean Arki? We would likely need pick 1 (to secure HVH) and then another top 5 pick for Arki. That’s based on current rankings (which will change of course) and our ladder position remaining as is.

I’m not sure we get both but I can see a world where we give up pick 1 and get involved in a mega trade with a few clubs for pick swaps. We’d be giving up on HVH but would be able to secure Arki Butler and say Clancy Snell. Richmond would be giving up pick 2 to us in that scenario.

My Sister just told me that Blake Justice is a blood relative of ours. Don’t think I have any influence though.

Harper McCullough is another of the long line of exciting prospects in what’s shaping up to be a super draft in 2027. McCullough was fantastic at last year’s U16 champs for vic metro and showed some of those traits here in a strong display for the Chargers. He was his team’s main engine at the coalface, sharking taps, winning contests and consistently getting first hands on the footy to drive the ball forward himself or release teammates into space. He plays with a physical edge that belies his small stature and breaks lines with pace both in traffic and in space.

Honestly, you are probably going to have to hope arki slips to 6 given the end of round compo for top 5 picks. Still you could get a neocleus at that pick which wouldn’t be a bad outcome either. I think there’s enough end of first rounders there to trade up to 6-8 to get another top end talent. I suppose it depends on how even they rate the top 10 versus the rest of the potential first rounders. It might be the case that they rate 5-20 evenly in which case they might just grab whose left over. Champs will sort that out I suppose.

If he makes it on the list, then you should nominate him as a candidate for sponsorship, next year.

Is he a likely prospect ?

Because he is in our NGA academy, we can match any bid in the draft, or if not bidded on add him to the rookie list.

So exceptionally likely for us. Our best NGA propsect this year.

He entered the year as a second round to middle tier prospect, and hasn’t played yet due to injury so likely to slide unless he gets back on the field.

I’m pretty bullish about his future prospects, he’s quite tall, a bit skinny. Quick and hits contests hard. Started out last year playing as a forward and was solid, but then started to generate more buzz with a shift into the midfield which I feel suits his traits and competitive instincts more.

Needs to work on the consistency of his kicking, although can hit them when he’s on form.

Justice is my maternal grandmothers maiden name. So this kid would like Fifth cousin or something.

So there is Justice after all?

Actually its interesting that you announce that you are related to a potential Essendon player called Justice and at the same time Lewis Hayes is cleared of an ACL rupture and James Hird is trying to come back as coach?

Why is it interesting ? I did know he existed until today.

Its the justice theme I was getting at which maybe isnt that interesting

Ethan Drever ends the first half of the season as one of the biggest movers in the pool, continuing to crank out fantastic performances week after week. We wait to see what he’s capable of at the upcoming Champs carnival and whether he can frank his status as a top 10 prospect in this pool. It was again his power and pace which caught the eye in this game, his ability to shift gears and drive himself from inside to outside the contest, leaving opponents in his wake. His dash and penetrating kick allow him to threaten a goal whenever he gets the footy in the front half of the field, although a little more accuracy on those long bombs would make him even more dangerous.

I love his size, burst, and tackling.

But my god every time I see him the forward half bombing kills me. It’s something our current mids do that drives me batty, I couldn’t possibly imagine adding to the issue.
