2026 draft thread - WE ARE NOT TRADING OUR FIRST PICK! READ THE NEW DRAFT RULES

I prefer the idea of using early picks on attacking players in the midfield and forward line, and aim to address the back line from the middle of the draft.

Some gems in there for sure! But all of those players would have been delisted after 4 or 5 failed seasons at Depressington…

or use failed forwards.

from list above McCartin and Battle were drafted as forwards.

We’re set then. Harry Jones and Kyle Gerreyn as key backs for the next 10 years.

Good lord - Fletch, Wellman, McPhee, Hooker, Hurley are the only players in that lot that did anything good in red and black.

You’re selling short Pears, McPhee, Laverde, Carlisle, Ambrose, even Michael and Zerk there. All of them put in seasons ranging from ‘handy piece of the puzzle’ to ‘dominant AA level’ at various stages.

Hmm, subjective of course and I was being critical - I should add *over 100 games to my comment then.

What’s the knock on El Souki, didn’t go to the right private school?

Dominated all season and is ranked by most 25-35 whereas Neocleous has been ‘just’ all season and is consensus top 20.

Accross all competitions:

Nuke 15 games, 12 goals
El Souki 11 games, 36 goals

I’d bid on him early so the dogs can’t match. Kako, El Achkar, El Souki running wild in the front half.

Very different players. Making the comparison you have here is basically useless.

Nuke is a high half forward, runs hard and works up through the middle of the ground to link play.

El Souki is predominantly a deep forward who occasionally rotates on ball.

You mean those middle picks that we don’t have

He might be worth a bid around picks 19,20,21 but imagine Doggies will match there.

A Patreon subscriber request to check out Archie Elliott in probably his strongest performance for Vic Country at this year’s carnival. Elliott was powerful and dynamic as always, not finding a heap of the footy but always damaging when he did get it, registering 8 score involvements from his 9 disposals and slotting 4 goals of his own.

El-Souki playing his first game for the VFL Footscray team v North Melb. Still going in the 4th. He has 3 goals, 14 Disp and 3 tackles.

Hope someone bids top 12, ■■■■ the scray

What’s El Souki’s defensive pressure like? I know he plays deep but I’d hate to see there a gap in this considering the mentality we’re trying to install in Kako/Huss.

He could be quite complementary to Huss (deep) and Kako (high HF) if he has this element in his game. Any aerial presence?

OUT: Arty Jones
IN: Khaled El-Souki

Certainly lays strong tackles. Reckon there is a bit of Huss where his next level of fitness unlocks greater pressure

Elliot’s marking ability makes him a little different to the other small forward options in the draft and real good fit for us.

If we plan on taking a few of them with our late first/early seconds I think he needs to be one of them

That’s good we have a history of mistaking our small forwards for Gary Ablett Snr.
