Noticed a lot of players in this tournament calling for VAR while the refs let play go on. Maybe time for captains call like in cricket. I thought it was the ref and var officials communicating through the headsets but the players definitely look like the ones calling for it.

Lineker has said that’s where he thinks it’ll go, to a challenge/review system. I think it would be good to get back to the point of VAR - for clear and obvious errors by the ref.

It’s an idea but unlike cricket the game is still flowing. I think England were attacking when the ref stopped play to go and have a squiz for Mexico’s penalty. Or does he wait until a break in play?

Maybe just leave VAR to make calls on goals/ non goals and leave the rest to the ref’s whistle.

Unlike AFL, they can bring play back because the 4th official is reviewing while the game continues.

Which ironically was the case in the AFL but they decided to change it mid-season.

So just caught up with yesterday’s games. Was there any reason why the Egyptian goal was pulled back for the foul in the lead up but the Argentinian one wasn’t?
