You realise that if we had taken Cyril there would have been no curse. Jay Neagle wouldn’t have played on, we wouldn’t have been garbage and there wouldn’t have been a saga. It can all be traced to that decision.
Sure but as soon Blitz finds out a kid is Aboriginal 50% of Blitzers start paying attention, then give him the surname Rioli and he’s a superstar without even playing a game.
My memory was we were surprised he couldn’t hand ball on his right after we drafted him. @Humble_Minion, wrote something in a thread about it a while back. I think.
That’s the story i heard. Arrives at the club, can’t handball on his right worth a damn. Bit of an oops for a guy we’d hoped would be a big inside mid. Lloyd was with the AFL Academy at the time, and he obviously got an earful from someone at the club about the whole situation, because the kicking and handballing tests were introduced to the combine, at his urging, the very next year.
Just looking at Archie Roberts’ highlights, there’s a bit of Luke Hodge about him in the way he moves. Genuinely can see him playing midfield in the future, awesome kick of the footy
I wasn’t quite correct, the test was first run in 2010. So not the ‘very next year’, sorry about that. It definitely was Lloyd who brought it in though, and from what i hear, it was in direct response to what happened with Myers.
Saw 40 new messages on the Archie Roberts thread & thought something significant had happened. I was wrong, less than 5 mentions of him in 40 messages.
I wonder how much emphasis recruiters now put on players being able to kick on both feet? I remember always saying that I couldnt believe that after being so long in a “professional” system myers still couldnt kick on opposite foot in a game.
