I think he was under the impression his kick would’ve been smothered. That’s not bottling the situation but I’d have rather he’d had a shot at goal because invariably he ended up giving it to a teammate under more pressure than he was.

Matthew Lloyd has a good eye for talent. He was talking up Archie all the way through. He also was very effusive in his praise for LDU even before he was drafted, and also Josh Battle, who has turned out to be a very solid and reliable player in the AFL.

Can work both ways.
Plus you have to factor in the time where ‘potential’ becomes ‘performance’ as well as the form drop when a contract is signed.
All players go through it when they go from being a teenager to having money to buy those things you’ve wanted.
Buying some time for him to work through his development seems fine here.

The aim would be switch between half back and wing depending on what we need from week to week. Between he and Saad, they should be able to provide a different (more attacking) look to what we get from Cox and Duursma.
If Duursma is injury riddled again, then they both can develops more on the wing. They can also switch with Martin between half back and wing. Having a taller and shorter half back flanker allowed us to be a bit flexible with the matchup as well.
Of course…
This requires Jones to be kept as a forward only to be played on a wing sparingly rather than what we’ve done the second half of this season with him.

They managed to get something out of Jones, but it’s time to put the big boy pants on. He needs to play as a key forward. He can be the one that works outside the 50, gives us an out ball and helps connect us, whilst Caddy works closer to goal.
