#21 Dyson "Go jam it” Heppell - 200th game this week (Part 1)

Won't be surprised if he's right up there with the best of the best next season and breaking the comp apart in 2016.

I would say he was up there already.

Yeh he is quality in close and super tough the only worry is his kicking, it sometimes really lacks penetration. Otherwise superb this year.

Yeah I would definitely have him as an A-grader. Not in the same class as Ablett, Dangerfield, etc but you would have to think his sheer wait of stats he has amassed would have him as an outside chance for AA selection. I actually don't think we have rated his season as highly as what he probably deserves. Quite a few times I've seen us not really rating him in our nobby votes yet has been right up there in the coaches votes. I think his defensive game is also quite undervalued on here simply because he looks like a slow chaser while nobody really sees his clever defensive positioning.

No doubt he's one of the best mids in the comp at the moment but I think he could be up around the top 3 by next season.

l noted weeks ago that he has added more intercept marks to his defensive repertoire this season, very noticeable.

Ablett’s in his own class. Best I’ve seen, let alone best of the present class.

Hepp isn’t in the Pendles/Fyfe/Jobe/Goddard/Danger (et al) class just yet but he’s within reach. Those guys hurt you 8 times out of 10 if they’ve got the ball in a dangerous position, Hepp is only about 6/10 IMHO.

? Did you miss his entire first year and a bit?

Will win our best and fairest.

Betchya didn't know Hepps was leading Jobe in contested possessions per game this year...

1st at the club for contested ball

2nd for clearances

And here I was just thinking "hang on, he'd have to go past Jobe next year to make my prediction come true".

Fair assessment

Legendary- Ablett

Elite- Pendles, Fyfe, Watson, BJ, Hodge, Danger

A-Grade- Heppel, Beams, Cotchin, etc

How come heppy still looks skinny after 4 years? He needs bigger legs too.

Watch him in the contested ball, standing next to other guys. He's a big, strong guy. He's standing up in tackles. As someone else mentioned earlier - I wouldn't want him getting much bigger.

Probably only needs to add a touch more size, penetrating kick and become dangerous forward to complete him.

Great comeback from the broken bone on his foot (from memory). Wonder if it still hampers his kicking a little bit…

I feel like I should drop in on this thread from time to time just to poke fun at the people who went off the deep end when we drafted Hep because 'o noes another half back flanker, we need a MIDFIELDER omgwtfbbq!!!!1!one!'

I was going to say how Humble Minion was telling everyone at the time that Heppell was a genuine midfielder. Then I looked at who wrote the post, and realised that you probably knew that already.

His kicking definitely looked penetrating on Saturday night.

I knew :p
He's magic is Dys.....like Unicorns ;)

If he's going to be elite he needs to get more Supercoach points. *ducks for cover*

Seriously though he's a really good player for us and is almost as important as Jobe/Goddard and closing the gap.

The question is how good will he be, how much better can he get? Does he just need to iron out a few flaws or add strings to his bow? Can he be 10-15% better or can he keep improving and re-define the role so in a few years we are saying that young blokes could end up "Heppell-like".

His kicking definitely looked penetrating on Saturday night.

Sure did. Lets hope he can keep it up more often than not from here on in. I think BJ has been getting in his ear!
