Well done, Hepp!
Top 5 in the Crichton in each of his first 7 years with us, was a star before that foot injury hit in 2020.
Quality person who gave everything he had to the club.

If you feel like being a twat about him, have a second thought about it and remind yourself of the unbelievable work he’s done with Harry and the scleroderma stuff. He’ll have my respect forever for that.
Dyson never lacked in courage on field, whether backing into an oncoming pack or throwing himself into packs on the ground he put his body constantly and selflessly into dangerous situations for the team.
This courage also extended to his captaincy where it was stymied by the foot injury that he carried throughout most of it. Dyson was one tough hombre.
Was tough to watch his form decline in recent years but it’s the right time for both he and the club to call it quits. He could’ve gone on for another year as he mentioned but in typical Dois fashion he selflessly made the right decision.
He also got to be a one club player at the club he barracked for, despite the lack of success, he got to live that dream.
Love ya Dois, thanks for everything.
Thanks Hepp, warrior and a good bloke.
Could have really been something but was cruelled by circumstance and injury.
The headlines will say ‘Stellar Career’ but it hasn’t been. And we’re sorry.
For me I pinpoint the pivot of his playing career from kamekazi evasive inside ball winning mid to the 2nd half of his career when he broke his foot kicking the ground. was nowhere near the same player he was and promised to be
This x 1000! Well said. There is a fair bit of short term memory loss in this forum. An absolute warrior, 1 club champion and Essendon Legend.
All players decline, but he gave it his all.
What a legend. Thanks for everything Dys.
Is he still selfish because instead of playing in a VFL game last week he took the time to contemplate his retirement?
All the best Dys
It wasn’t just last week.
Great clubman who led the side through the hardest of times. I wish him all the best for his future; he thoroughly deserves it!
You mean the week before when he was the carryover emg, which was quite clearly the right decision?
Thank you Dyson for your services to our football club.
All the best for what comes next.
Lead the team through an extremely difficult period and gave his all.
A very genuine character that will be missed within the club.
It’s a shame we couldn’t give this man some success.
Time to give that body a well earned rest.
All the best Dyson!
At least he always had a crack, game might have caught up with him over the past year or so but he always hooked in.
Pre saga, he was a really good prospect. Still remember his first season, he was looking like he’d be an elite player. He genuinely looked like a A grade player in that AA year. Shouldn’t have gone around again this year though, Thankfully the right call has been made
Its wild to think he’s once again, another club captain/long time servant that has experienced 0 success. These guys deserve more enjoyment on field than we give them
Enjoy retirement hep.
It’s a bit of a case of you make your bed, you lie in it though. In many ways Dyson was a key architect in the cultural decay we’re battling so hard to correct.
Other than Merrett, have we had any player over the last 13 years deliver as many consistent performances for the club?
Top 3 in the Crichton in his first 6 years, 5th in his 7th year, that’s unbelievable consistency. A couple more top 10 finishes since his foot injury wiped out 2020.
Feels like it’s been Merrett, Heppell, then daylight.
Good call.
All the very best for life after footy Hepp.
Thankyou for the many years when you carried this club.
What an absolute warrior and quality person. We have served him sh|t sandwich after sh|t sandwich, and he’s swallowed them down without even a grimace. The reason for our mediocrity is not because of Heppell, but because we don’t have more people like him.
