Good player with what is a crap career, must hurt going through and entire footy career having never won a final. Really shows how ■■■■ Essendon have been.
Add in some poor decisions around the saga and he hasn’t had much of a run at it.
His season and then end is fitting of much of an Essendon team, inconsistent and not able to sustain consistent footy as the year progressed, but able to turn on a blinder for his last.
A different time, maybe a different club he might have been regarded as a better player. But his legacy will not age well I think.
So farewell Hepp, thanks for giving it your all and doing what you thought was best for the club, always. Now you can join us in watching frustratingly from the sidelines.
I don’t think he’ll become head coach.
I think he’ll step out and enjoy life with his wife for a year, then come back to footy in small parts. He could be a good development coach. Assistant coach probably isn’t for him.
Calls for Hepp to be given a new position in any way related to the club are misguided. It seems like anytime a player with over 200 games retires there is a call that goes out over Blitz to retain said player in some official capacity. We have Hurley filling that role already. Enough with the nostalgia, it is getting us nowhere. It isn’t only that we need to get ruthless, or surround our players with examples of recent success. More than that we need outside views looking over our entire set up to provide a fresh look at every aspect of play through a different set of lens.
