#22 Sam Durham - thru to 2028!

If it brings premiership success then yes

It would be different if we were contending and were paying near the full salary cap. But we’re not, we have years to go in this rebuild with an enormous cap space at the moment. Keep your top performers like Merrett and Durham happy and it will go a long way in building a great list in the future.

It’s probably better than front loading more of other players contracts.

Whilst I don’t disagree, that theory only works if we are below the minimum salary cap requirement which I don’t believe we are. That’s salary that could
Ultimately go to paying off their existing contracts earlier to free up even more cash space for a free agent or to resigning Draper.

I just don’t like it as a policy, I would be okay with it if say we renegotiated a contract and other variables (eg length of contract) were also changed. But that is salary that could have been utilised to pay off other contracts earlier, free up more cap space and attract more talent into the club.

This policy means that if a player over performs to their agreed contract then they can get an increase, but if a player underperforms then their contract stays the same. Personally I’d just prefer that they put that in the contract up front (eg Sam, if you place in the top 3 in a b&f you get a x% increase) rather than just giving it. Hopefully that’s the case and it’s just not being reported

Half the teams in the comp already call him daddy.

I’m surprised we didn’t lock him for a 5th year as a compromise

One good quarter, three average ones. Not good enough for long enough.

Is this guy ever gonna take the next step or just be content to sit as a C grader who occasionally is a B grader?

Given he plays for Essendon, I think we all know the answer.

What? I thought he was one of our bests today.

Which says a lot sadly. He had a terrific second quarter, he averaged 4 disposals for the other 3 quarters and had aboslutely no impact.

nah fark him trade him for a bag of chips

He was good in patches and invisible for long periods

He needs to be a lot better than we he showed today, especially defensively

We need to stop playing him on the defensive side every single bounce.

He is our best mid at breaking clear from a stoppage but its wasted with this tagging role.

I think you’re being a bit histrionic here, he tore teams apart last year. He’s still a kid and having a stretch of about 3 bad games, go easy

One of the only blokes that kept cracking in.
Kicked 2 goals on top of it.

Far bigger issues than Duzz. Bloke was alright

You use the word histronic and then tell me how he tore teams apart? He is simply a good C grader who sometimes can go to A or B grader on his day.

He had some fantastic games last year, some great moments and is hard at the football, but so what, other teams have 2-3 in their midfield that do this as a minimum.

We really overrate our players on here and he hasn’t progressed this year at all.

Calling Durham a C grader is genuine brain illness.
No one with any football knowledge would call him that.

Not sure about the ā€œtoreā€ bit, he had moments, not whole games. However, I think that he is being used more to tag or shut down the oppo this year and that is costing his attacking game.

Fairly impressive for a bloke that apparently ā€œhasn’t progressed at allā€ to be ahead across the majority of stats compared to last year.
Showing an improvement year on year. Just a shame he has very little help at the moment
