He is playing like a player who is buying into his own hype that never really matched his output to begin with. Has never played more than 2 good quarters in a game and has always been capable of some horrendous turnovers. His highlight reel would be a good one but he needs to settle into a half forward role. He is not a natural midfielder. The one of those we do have is currently serving a career sentence in the VFL.
I reckon his attack on the pill and contest has confused us into thinking he is an inside mid.
But he is better on the outside, where he can take overhead marks and run with the pill, as well as absolutely cracking in when the contest is there.
Samās attack on the ball today was a welcome return to form and an inspiration to those around him. Agree heās more suited to outside
And that goal in the 2nd, a feint and two sidesteps -was a revelation. Well done
He is peerless when it comes to 1v1 ground ball contests.
If he had the tank heād be an AA quality winger.
Durham is a weird one because his attack on the footy is second to none, he is extremely clean with the ball, has speed and composure but for some reason has just not kicked on as a midfielder this year, despite having quite healthy clearance numbers.
For whatever reason he struggles to find the ball around the ground outside of stoppages.
That has been the case for basically our entire midfield so far this year, and I wonder if he were playing in a better system if he would struggle as much.
Itās a shame because without that weakness he would be knocking on the door of an elite footballer.
We need this guy getting 30 disposals a game, not 16.
Has been woeful this year compared to previous years.
Could have picked him instead of Alex Morgan, so essentially no cost.
And had the bash brothers, yes he would have likely been found out and replaced.
But EFC were lacking a big body at the time to replace Watson/Hocking era.
Worry was he would lead Parish astray. But reports from Brisbane was he was a good motivator.
Energetic character like VOSS, Draper, etc. So maybe didnāt pass the character test.
Duz is due a big game. Heās too good a player nowadays and loves a battle. But, heāll definitely need to be up for this one though with Rowell, Petracca et al.
I think heās being used in a few roles with Marto out, Parish back and just getting to grips with that, a differing mix and rhythm of teammates off the bench and at CBAs.. This one up at GC might well be the one he settles and gets cracking.
Not too much more exciting as a Bomber fan than Sam Durham on the burst, out the front of a CBA or stoppage looking to hit up Caddy or a forward drifting out the back.
No question marks over this Bomber.
Heās the least of our worries. Heās dangerous and other teams need to plan for him, just like they do with Merrett. He can play wing, mid, forward, would probably dominate off half back too. Heās durable, likes the rough stuff and likes hurting people. Heās more ācrash and bashā than āsilky smoothā and heās just as likely to get caught HTB as he is to earn a free with his tackling. Strong overhead marker with a great leap, and has a wobbly kick that seems to go where heās aiming.
Just like Merrett he needs helpers to take the focus off him so he can do his best work. With Kako and Roberts looking the goods, imagine how good weād be with Martin and Robey fit and firing alongside Durham too.
How about a tagger / forward role. I think he would be much more effective than McGrath as a tagger. If we need to shut someone down we send him into the middle. E.g. Put him on Rowell in a negating role and then switch him forward other times
While not huge stats, I reckon he had a very good game.
His one touch and multiple efforts in the forward line create scores.
He has selflessly made way in the middle for Tsatas and Mcgrath, so his numbers have dropped off but he still has a big impact on the game.
McGrath is not a midfielder.
Tsatas should play on Wing
Tsatas should never play on wing
Tsatas canāt play any other spot. He is not flexible. Like I said above, we should play Durham in the middle as a tagger and then rest him up forward.
The way this guy can pick up the ball in traffic is incredible.
