#23 Harrison Jones

Unless I misread this, either you don’t consider yourself an Essendon person, or if you do, then only some Essendon people have these traits. Just like only some supporters of any team have these same traits.

Only other factor possibly relevant is Essendon’s possible current limitations in providing an environment that allows Harry, and others to be injury free and have long training blocks. That’s a relevant question we understand even the club isn’t absolutely sure it can deliver. :crossed_fingers:

For all those saying “Offer him one year only”
Genuine question… Are you prepared to lose him to another club who offers two or 3 years?
Because he will attract other offers. If the answer is yes then thats ok.

I’d love to only offer him one year, but Hawks or North, hell, even Richmond would be screaming out for young KPP, will offer him more than one year, and he would be stupid not to take the longer contract.

At the present time other clubs are not going to offer him 2 or 3 year contracts. His best bet would be 1 year with a potential 2nd year based on results and recovery.

We should start offering our players contracts based on dog years.

“Hi Harrison, we are offering you a 7 year contract”

I really don’t think that’s true. He’d get a 2yr offer from almost any club on the lookout for a young forward relatively cheap.

and that stuff is good as a bonus no doubt, but do you actually want a 2nd/3rd tall forward who’s biggest strengths are those things ?

and you at least show that you think about football, so you seeing that stuff and thinking he can make it is different to the normal supporter, cos you wouldn’t be labelling him a “prodigious” talent on the back of the things you mentioned.

You are ignoring the 20 goals over 17 games? For a kid in his first season, that’s not too shabby.

it’s a lil over 1 goal a game also, it’s not exactly screaming “the new buddy franklin” oh sorry prodigious talent

That first season of senior footy was very promising.

Not sure why you’d want to spin it any other way.

He only posts when it can be something negative he can carry on about.

I mean…
I don’t disagree with you, but it’s more than Buddy averaged in his first year…

Two more years. If there isn’t significant positive progression (with his body/injuries and on field) after that, send to the knackery.

Would he though?

I rate Harry, but I’m less convinced other clubs will exactly be lining up to sign him.

His injury card so far is pretty rough reading.

If someone took Francis after 7 years, they’d take Jones after 3.

I mean, it’s a point.

Pretty different injury profiles, though.

I could see clubs taking a chance on Jones if we delisted him, no doubt.

But to trade for and offer 2+ years to a guy who is perpetually injured? Based off the sample size of some of 2021?

I dunno. Maybe. I wouldn’t think such things should factor into our decision on what contract we give him.

Reckon you need to review this comment. Since Redman became a best 22 bloke in 2019, he has missed about 5 games in the 85 he has played.

Disagree. He played the covid year for most of the year with a groin injury. He struggled for most of the year. Redman himself said he blossomed only after two excellent preseasons.

If he can’t get back on track and have an injury free preseason - he’s cooked.

We said that last year. He doesnt have the body to stand up to consistant senior footy
