He’s part of the problem. Just doesn’t present in the F50. Half-heartedly waves his arm in the air and then doesn’t get near it.
He seems he only gets his touches off a fast turnover or up on a wing a couple times a game.
Personally i’d drop both Wright and Jones, play 2 rucks and see what Caddy can offer for a few games.
The problem with jones is you can’t bank on him any week to get you more than 2 goals a game. He’s not that sort of player. Plus his set shot kicking for goal is generally unreliable. He just doesn’t do enough to warrant keeping him in the side and I think his efforts are very overrated on here.
Rohan connolly mentioned on the LCU podcast how even as fans we’re now happy that jones takes a couple of marks and kicks a goal. Tbh if we really want to progress, we should play caddy over him.
The modern KPF, or at least those we identify as effective CHF types cover a fair bit of ground over the course of a game. They’re not afraid to lead up and roam well away from home to get hold of the ball and stay in the game. And drop back deep when they feel they’re a chance to take a grab or get back on the end of a play.
Think Jezza, Curnow or Hogan … sometimes Naughton. Harry is developing into that mould, that type of a KPF imho though sure, he still has a way to go to get there. But the more he gets it in his hands the more he’ll not just prop but wheel and go and begin to play with confidence and instinct. I reckon it’s def there … but does he want it enough is the question.
It’s why I’d drop 2MP vs WC given Peter’s form and give the CHF keys to Harry for a block. Jake needs to stay deep and let Harry work it out with Langers whilst the smalls get to the fall of the ball more. And Harry must keep leading often and lead up with purpose, always looking to find a bit of space.
Caddy will give him competition but Harry’s bigger, has some AFL games under his belt and I reckon worth backing in. So will the selectors be bold enough? And does Harry make it, does he progress here on end as hoped?
He’s just not AFL standard ……oh and the pressure acts are non existent ……zero tackles last night and something like 14 for the year. He’s had a good run at it. Drop him and play Caddy - already better and is the future
He’s not finding his way up to the wings like he was earlier in the year. And when he is, we aren’t using him as a target.
It doesn’t look like it’s a fitness thing and looks more like a coaching instruction to suit the team.
Maybe Duursma taking his spot on the wing unlocks that for us again. As it coincided with when he got injured.
Weirdly, it also seemed like our forwards pushed too far up the field. Usually there are a few hanging around the centre circle. Last night, this was pushed a further 20m towards Carlton’s goal.
I think the gameplan for Jones changes from week to week depending on the matchup and what we want to exploit. I just find him difficult to judge. It’s not as simple as looking at the stats to get a gauge on him. He seems to have a selfless role where he drags his opponent away to free someone else up.
Literally yelling at the TV for him to take one step and snap it over his head. I know you gotta be a pro but cmon… He marked it 3m from the goal line.
I’m not a fan but we’ve invested a lot of games in him. He’s quite agile, seems to have a good tank, why not try him as a half back? He doesn’t have a great forward craft but can take a mark. Maybe chasing a forward will help him get involved and we might just get a good player who gets a bit of confidence and can add to the options we have moving forward. Too much invested to just delist at the end of the year.
