#24 Nick Bryan - ACL recovery thru 2025

Yes - though I doubt he avoids surgery. I did a partial tear of my ACL about 7 years ago and avoided it, but then again, I’m not a full time athlete.

There has not been an epidemic.
But 2 for us in 2 weeks is really really bad luck.

Average is slightly above 1 per club per season, so no more for us for a long while please

I did my ACL many years ago and I’m sure that surgical techniques etc have changed since then, but back then I was told that even with a partial tear, an athlete has to go get a full reconstruction anyway. It just won’t regenerate if left alone, and a full tear is only a matter of time.

Draper gonna get a long and fat contract.

Our other options outside of bryan are more than 12 months away.

And the crows will have the money, some hope and a whole lotta desperation to add the missing piece of the puzzle to their flag run.

He’s a few weeks of VFL away but I quite like the idea of Cox playing 2nd ruck.

Shattering for Bryza. Had a great pre-season and started the year well. Is he out of contract at the end of this year? I’m sure the club will support him if he is and give him another deal. All the best Nick, get a bit more muscle on the upper body and come back ready for a big 2026!

I’ve never been opposed to the idea of Cox in the ruck in theory, but even if he was fully fit and ready to go, I don’t think he’s ever even really trained with the rucks, let alone played there seriously.

I think he’s pinch hit at times (that Sydney game in his rookie year springs to mind) but I can’t comment whether or not he’s trained there.

Pretty sure is he OOC end of this year. Anyway no other club will offer him a big deal to leave now so we are safe there. He will stay you would think

Straight line sports yes. Football no.

You would have received the advice of the times… but in real life, nope nope and nope.

AFL world however, yes, they will all get a reco.

We’ll definitely give him a contract.

Gets the starting gig after 5 years with no injuries of note, does his knee after a month. Truly ■■■■ luck.

If it’s an isolated ACL (which is uncommon to begin with) and you’ve got function knee stability you can go non-operatively.
It’s becoming more normal these days but doubt AFL clubs would opt down that route tbh. Unless it was like 3 months before finals and it was an older player.
Example in Australian Rules:

And this bloke made the NBA with no ACL in either knee!

Shocking news if ACL, he was competing well against Gawn before injury.

EPL player returned to play in under 8 weeks without surgery.

But yeh, agree, AFL clubs aren’t going to do it

Horrendous news. We were just starting to see the player he could become. I’ve also quite enjoyed watching the duo. Looks like 2MP will get a reprieve.

Confirmed ACL, awaiting scan results to see the damage.

Hopefully 2MP can resume, otherwise we look to the old man or the kids…

No knee contact is what I meant (MCL is normally when you get contact on the lateral side and especially if the foot is planted and someone cannons into the outside of the knee. The rucks were just pushing upper body - so there was upper body contact.

Oh FFS!
