#24 Nick Bryan - instigating mêlées til 2025

At a minimum he has to follow the opposing ruckman and know how to defend him. A session down back doesn’t mean he’s being trained in a new position, it’s just getting up skilled in needed skills.

There have been a few knowledgeable posters mention this kid might be more than just a one- dimensional tap ruckman. Seems to move extremely well.

Well he does have elite speed for a ruck and a very good leap. At this stage his ability to run out a full game and obvious lack of strength are the areas that will be worked on over the coming years.

This year’s lack of reserve games might allow him to expedite his physical development, which could prove to be a silver lining from the vfl’s shutdown

Showed a bit in the practice match highlights

Wow we may have even outdone ourselves here. Turning a ruckman into a back pocket playing on a small.

Nick Bryan

“Nick was one of our better players. He pretty much played in the back pocket on a small and he did a fabulous job. His ground-ball work for a big bloke was elite - he’d pick up the ball, handball off the deck and make great decisions. We’ve got quite a few ruckmen in the team, but he embraced the move of playing in defence.”

Was just reading that. Very excited about what this bloke will be able to offer with Draper as our future ruck combo.

Or we have put him there for a bit to train up on a specific part of his game, … like how to beat littler guys, or tackle them cleanly or simply defensive efforts as a step in his development or something silly like that. : :no_mouth:

No doubt its all about learnings.

That it is.

Question for the BLITZ brain trust:

Why don’t we play blokes in the position they are best suited, and which allows them to develop their craft? Other clubs seem to have stumbled on this as a concept, but not us. Thoughts?

As I said above the only possible reason is learnings.

Focus is getting ruck minutes into Draper then Bellchambers. Bryan will have to work on other aspects of his game while we are getting the AFL level rucks up to speed.

Probably not a bad thing, rucks need to be useful around the ground in the modern game.

It will be especially important for Bryan to diversify his skill set if he doesn’t want to get stuck competing with Draper as the number 1 ruckman.

You’re all wrong, and hysterical.

We had waaaay too many talls for a small team on a big ground. Four rucks/forwards: Draper, Bellchambers, Crauford, Bryan. Plus Gown, plus Stewart, plus Zerk-Thatcher, plus (to a lesser extent) Francis.

McBride didn’t play.

It’s amazing we continue to win these fast open scratch matches with that kind of squad.

It’s pretty obvious why this is happening surely?
These scratch matches are just made up with whoever is left after the 22 is picked for the seniors.

It just so happens that we have 4 ruckman outside of our best 22 who are currently fit. Where else are you going to play them? There’s no point giving each ruckman a 5 minute rotation each quarter, there’s nothing to be gained from that.

TOO SLOW.

I thought it was obvious why and a funny little aside. Blitz not really having a “funny aside” kind of week.

Why do we keep picking up slow ruckman.

Damn you Dodoro!
