#25 Jake Stringer (Part 2)

Stringer kicked 39 playing predominantly midfield in 2021.

He kicks goals no matter where he plays.

Weideman has the ability to kick 70 goals. Wait and see.

That’s a huge call given the list of players who have actually achieved that feat:

In the VFL maybe.

Somebody is about to get a reality check.

None in the last 4 seasons.
One only in each of the 3 seasons before that (Cameron 2018, J. Riewolt 2017, Buddy 2016).

If Weideman kicks 30 goals or more next season I will be extremely happy with him.

For reference, the coleman medal winners over the past 10 years

Year Player Club Goals
2022 Charlie Curnow Carlton 64
2021 Harry McKay Carlton 58
2020 Tom Hawkins Geelong 42
2019 Jeremy Cameron GWS Giants 67
2018 Jack Riewoldt Richmond 65
2017 Lance Franklin Sydney 69
2016 Joshua Kennedy West Coast 80
2015 Joshua Kennedy West Coast 75
2014 Lance Franklin Sydney 67
2013 Jarryd Roughead Hawthorn 68
2012 Jack Riewoldt Richmond 65

Just realised the stats I was looking at included finals. So one player in 10 years has kicked 70+ in 22 games.

But Weideman is definitely better than all those guys. And there’s no reason to believe our forward line will suck as much as it has in the past. 70 Goals is a pass mark next year.

In 1996 Gary Ablett Snr was let go by the Cats after kicking 69 goals for the season.

Was probably due to other non football issues based on what I’ve been told

Yeah, wasn’t the most stable human being, but boy could he play footy!

Loves a sausage roll.

Is his contract up this year?

Nope, end of 2024

Picture doesn’t tell the story but looks at first glance he has put on a bit but could be just the picture
