#25 Jake Stringer (Part 1)

Just watching the replay (for the second time) and noticed how mammoth he was (with others) in the last. Was getting to heaps of contests, laying important tackles and getting important touches (that handball over the head, the centre clearance after Fridge’s goal …). Great sign that he was doing this while others were tiring.

The goals will come. If today is his baseline then we are in for a treat.

liked it, and I reckon that’s a baseline for him.

was patchy through the game, but that’s understandable for someone playing their first game in a new club in a new position

Impacted a couple of important contests, threw himself at the footy at a couple of centre bounces, and could have easily had two goals for the night if he was a bit more settled

Will only get better, but last night was definitely the blueprint for how we want him to play for us

What I liked most was that he clearly wanted to make a statement. He took the game on in big moments, used his strength, and whilst they didnt really come off last night, they will throughout the season.

We have a player with clutch moment match winning attitude and size and strength. He has clearly embraced EFC and it’s clear we have embraced him. It’s going to be a roller coaster at times, but I for one am going love watching him.

He’s 23. There’s a lot of upside yet to come.

Did he lose a contest? Thought he was great to at least halve he’s contests even when outnumbered. He’ll get off the leash.

Loved his game.

Would only have been better if he’d come in and poleaxed Douglas after the Merrett hit.

Would’ve written himself into Bomber folklore.

That’s an important stat

Didn’t have a lot of influence possession wise but def threw his weight around and had that intent to pressure/tackle.

We look so much stronger around the ball with him midfield, just his presence seems to intimidate opposition mids a little because he’s so unpredictable and rarely goes to ground, awesome to watch, serious pace and finally we have a player that works in the Davey forward role of 3 v 1 you’re the one

Workhorse effort from Stringer in his first game. Good signs.

I thought watching the game live at the stadium that he’s lost a little zip that he usually has.

Hope they haven’t bulked him up too much for an inside role.

Great moment off the ball. Stringer running from the Center to the f50. Defender following kept getting pushed in the chest, fell back a couple of meters, had to run to catch up, Stringer just shoved him again, repeat 4 or 5 times. Finally Stringer gave him a big shove and sprinted away to nearly take an uncontested mark. A display of strength and aggression that was very cunning and nearly resulted in a goal.

No Stringer, no Bulldogs!

As someone had mentioned earlier, it was a “nearly” game from him. But whilst didn’t he the on the stats sheet much did a lot of physical work at stoppages and equal led the tackle count for us.

Was spewin’ Zaka missed him when he had 20m on his opponent up fwd in last quarter. Would have been great opportunity for him to open up his scoring account with us.

Fired off a couple of solid handballs too.

The one to Joey over the shoulder in the 2nd qtr (which Joey then kicked OOF) was very sharp.

Etihad would have fkn collapsed if he kicked that goal and it was paid advantage

That’s going to happen one day and it’s gonna be awesome

We have the best crowd noise trumps Richmonds

The controlling ump actually paid the advantage but razor overruled him. Razor was probably getting the umpire back for overruling him on Gibbs

Did Stringer kick it or it was a behind

Behind from memory

Hopefully against the Dogs next 2 weeks

Would love him to stick it up the Dogs

Early days but all the signs he displayed are positive ones. There is a lot here to work with and his ceiling is very high indeed. As a first up what impressed the most was his willingness to get involved in any and every facet of the game. He is going to take a power of stopping by the opposition. l wish other clubs good luck in their quest to curtail him, because he looks driven, a player with something to prove. Surely, there will be much more to come.
