I agree it’s clearly something that Rosa likes that dodoro didn’t seem to care about, as seen by tsatas previously and hobbs, along with many others. It’s an important change in philosophy, which will help us to finally shoot up the ladder.
"After looking at the highlights, I still see him the same as before.
He’s an average player. In an experienced team that have good repetitive behaviours on match day, you get to see the best of him and his weaknesses are relatively minimised.
Stick him in a lesser team that’s still trying to get to that level of consistency and I don’t see him lifting the team to new heights. Moreso he gets brought down a peg or two as his weaknesses are exposed more often and the best of him is a lower range.
It’s sort of like the Blumfield / Heffernan complex of our 2000 team. In a well oiled machine, they do their job and do it very well. Stick them in a lesser team and they get exposed. Then when they came back to us after their stint, they were nowhere near previous levels when we actually needed them to improve on those levels.
We might thread the needle and get a player who revives their career and becomes very good for the next 5 years. But I think this is more likely a 1 year bounce before being overtaken by younger players. A good example of this would be Will Brodie or Will Setterfield.
Best of luck to him though."
Blummmers you are never short of a word. Did you see his game last night?
Thought he was good, game good and and a good addition hereonend
I thought he was fine.
He’s morphed into a defence first player for us.
In the match sim I got to earlier this year, he did try and be a bit more creative with his kicking and made some errors, but last night, he was more restrained and safe.
I think he’ll be in our 22 for opening round.
Me too. I thought he added value in a way too tall back line. He fits in.
You can see what Scott likes for this season. He seems to like Bryan, Tsatas, Jones, Hobbs. He appears to have a soft spot for Prior, and I think Edwards is rising up the ranks quickly.
Prior has done nothing wrong so far, is playing his role. See how it goes.
I’m more of a Kenny Roberts guy ![]()
Was like a better Zerk - Thatcher, has a lot of composure , backs himself, ready made player was really impressed with his game.
Rock solid player but lacking significant upside.
Things go well for him and he could have a Mark Baguley type career at EFC.
Not so well = Matt Dea
I’d have him as an emergency but it’s close between him and Robert’s for the 7th defender option. Back 6 to be:
Ridley, McKay, McGrath
Shiel, Reid, redman
Bench defender Roberts. I just think we need a bit more pace in defence and he offers that over prior, and has more upside.
Will be interesting to see though
It was interesting to see McGrath in the midfield in the 2nd half of the Geelong practice match. Maybe Prior will take his place in defence ?
Prior is a lock in for best 23.
Going to take more convincing for me.
That was a nice glimpse though.
Looks like he is quite sound overhead.
More than I remember from his Bris days.
Certainly, he plays next week.
Agreed
With their plans to have McGrath freed up and even CBA’s at times that lock down player is needed in defence. And he has that over anyone else
Not flashy at all but a dependable & composed player
Prior has a few abilities including kicking, but the one that I really like is his ability to play tough. If I was playing in a close one a the end of a game , he is a player who has ways of taking control in getting it out out of the backline.
Who was keeping him out at Brissie?
I don’t mind the look of him thus far, particularly his desperation.
Starcevich, McKenna, Answerth, Lester.
Starcevich is a gun, McKenna pretty good but I’ve never heard of the other blokes
Yep pretty much. Better leg than those two though at least.
Answerth is a potato but he’s tough.
Lester is a good honest foot soldier.
McKenna is not quite the player he was with us.
Perhaps better defensively, but most of the searching runs thru the corridor have vanished at Bris, perhaps by design from the coaches.
Starcevich certainly turned into a very solid dependable back man.
He did have his pants completely pulled down in '23 GF though.
