Absolutely putrid. If Kelly or heppell played a game like that this place would be ablaze.
I thought he’d be serviceable but was pathetic. What concerned me most was the way he gave up the chase on Newcombe.
He was never going to catch him but on a 1 year deal at a new club I’d like to think you’d put the effort in.
I won’t write him off after one game but that was as bad as I’ve seen for a long long time

5-6 efforts of his were utter utter trash.

Shouldn’t play next week.
Awful, awful debut for the club.
Outmarked constantly.
Weak effort on Newcombe which cost a goal.
Don’t remember any damaging kicking.
I kept saying if you can’t get a game ahead of deadset blue collar plodders like Answerth & Lester, how is he a lock for our Best 23 ?

If he couldn’t get a game with brisbane, don’t expect him to set the world on fire at essendon.
Very poor defensively tonight. Allowed too much space to his direct opponents, no body checking and was ball watching alot. Got caught out of position and at times found himself in no mans land without a direct opponent and having no impact on the play.
I was on the Jaxon Prior train (or bus, whatever) but admit have just checked what is the next stop.
Has to be harder and better that tonight?

In the post 1990 AFL era, there hasn’t been a worse game played by an Essendon player. Should have given Kaine Baldwin his list spot. Prior will be playing in the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League next season.

There’s an article online from Fagan talking about a game last year where he says that Prior needs to believe he is an AFL quality footballer.
I’d suggest he has been overawed by the big crowd, so willing to give him another week, but agree that a repeat of that performance is not acceptable.

He’s 24 in a couple of months.
Has played 40 games and debuted in 2021.
Look, it is harsh dropping a player after 1 bad game at a new club.
Maybe he just isn’t very good ?

He looked a bit like a deer in the headlights.

I thought he showed signs preseason, but didn’t compete last night with any real commitment. Or at least, if that was what he thinks commitment looks like then he needs to go back to the twos until he displays some “true grit”.
It’s not about punishment, it’s about accountability and earning your spot.
He needs to repay the trust put in him by demonstrating effort and commitment.
The kind of effort and commitment Duzz and Marto showed trying to chase down Impy.
They were never going to catch him in time, but those two were 100% committed to the chase to the very end.
The incident with Newcombe needs to be shown by comparison.
He gave up way too easily.
We have to lay down the law,
That is not good enough and not what we stand for.
Chase until the end and make sure you crunch him as he is about to kick the ball or just after.
Take a look at what Battle did to Kako immediately after Kako gets his foot to the ball to score the goal. Crunched him.
The Oppo needs to worry about what is coming even if it doesn’t get there, seeds of doubt need to be planted, otherwise they run around acting with impunity acting all cocky.

Martin hesitates for a couple of seconds too long to start the chase, and he had to know that Jones wasn’t going to be able to run down Impey.
His chase effort was good, his decision making to commit, was just off IMO.
That soft effort on newcombe is a droppable offence, seriously pissweak stuff
