certainly that’s what i hoped before i saw him play senior footy. the shorts steps are going to be hard for him to shake i suspect
I am but i was just so shocked to see our players actually pósiton well in the backline. Really lead by him along with a solid performance from Reid. McGrath on the other hand … needs to be dropped
mcgarth has driven me crazy for a long time but at least the defensive side of his game was reasonably solid. It’s fallen off a cliff though. it’s weird
He went forward of the ball the exact same place he played his best footy at brisbane.
Prior was absolutely deplorable in the first half.
I wanted him subbed and never seen again.
The second half something clicked and he pulled off some great kicks opening up the field. I’m still not convinced but there is a chance he could make it.
The Horney ones first goal in the last quarter was not good look for Prior. He stepped out of the way to let the Horney one run into goal without applying a block. Seems a little soft.
No he didn’t…
Was playing backline for pretty much the entire match.
Great turnaround from him in the 2nd half regardless
He definitely played a better second half, but he basically got out of the way when JHF kicked that goal to get them back in the game. I don’t think he should keep his spot in the team. Let’s get a look at Clark or Johnson.
There’s absolutely no chance he gets dropped after that 2nd half. Just not going to happen
I don’t think he did step out of the way. He was running straight at the ball…then the ball wasn’t there because JHF “stole it”.
But yes, in general he is soft.
However, I thought he was a bit better in the second half. Did some ok (as in normal) things.
His first half was poor. Whoever he listened to at half time must have resonated, because he looked totally different in the second half.
His was a game of 2 halves. The first half was horrendous, about as bad as it could possibly get. The second half he moved up the ground, got more involved and looked a whole lot better. With others to come back after the break, he should be the first one dropped.
At quarter time I called him the worse pick up I’ve ever seen. But he certainly had a better second half, won some important contests, showed courage and chose some good options.
Started roughly, like McKay, but ended up playing a decent game. Some good intercepts, and good composure at times. Like McKay did, improved as the game wore on.
Actually didn’t think he was too bad last night, compared to horrendous mess of last week
Absolutely putrid. Whilst I didn’t think he was at AFL standard, he did do a few things in the second half that makes me think he’s worth persisting with.
The stepping out of JHFs way in the fourth was made up by standing in front of Georgians late in the game.
He just needs to play more on instinct (which I think he did 2nd half) and think less.
When he is at his worst He seems to be someone afraid of making mistakes, and that is of course a recipe for making mistakes.
It’s a coin flip where it goes to from here, but at least he now knows what good looks like, can he reproduce it consistently going forward?
He does it that often his nickname should be ‘knuckles’.
Agree with this. He seemed to be petrified of making a mistake in the first half.
Wow really? He cost us at least 3 goals directly from his mistakes. He is putrid and our form uplift correlated him having 7minute spells on the bench in the second half.
He is in the conversation for the worst 3 games i’ve ever seen for Essendon. Simply MUST be dropped.
