#25 - Jaxon Prior

Look I dont think he’s a 200 gamer, and he’s probably depth/VFL but after starting poorly again I thought his efforts were ok. Backline has hardly ever played toegther over the past 2 years, reckon he gets another 4-5 games purely to try and get a bit settled down there.

Agree with all of this. Nothing he did in the second half excuses what he served up in the first 2 rounds.

If Essendon can stick with the likes of Jones, Perkins and Menzie for years, then it can give Prior more than 3 weeks.

He’s been bad. But I’m not against him getting opportunity to improve.

But who replaces him if he’s out?
If it’s SEH that goes back, then I’m all aboard. Otherwise, who comes in for him that’s ready and available?

Is this for JHF’s goal? I thought he was going for the ball and JHF just plucked it out of his path.

Middle image looks like he’s ready to bump JHF if he tries to split he and Durham.

I’m going to buck the trend. The second half was OK at best. He clearly is NGE.

Yeah, that was just good from JHF. However if he missed or fumbled the ball he could of opened himself up for criticism for not hitting the contest hard, JHF that is. Nice goal in the end. I’ve noticed Durham does the same thing, reaching in one handed and grabbing the ball.

I have been as critical of Prior as anyone on here, and yet for all that l don’t believe he stepped out of the way of JHF, who was just closer, quicker, and had a great side step that wrong footed Prior.

Correct. He didn’t shirk anything (albeit could have been better), JHF was just far too good. It really was a beautiful gather and side step.

The one who erred here was Durham who allowed JHF the space. But of course, he was bloody good all day, so had plenty of runs on the board.

Probably going against the tide but I don’t mind him. At least he can kick. I’ve been conditioned to not expect much after putting up with Kelly……

That’s exactly what I want. If Ridley, Reid and McKay are taking taller guys, Redman is taking the mid size, it allows McGrath and SEH to take the smaller guys, and SEH offering a lot of run out of the backline. Redman was much better last week, did all the things you expect, so Prior is just a nothing burger.

I’m swapping him out for Kelly in a heartbeat

Prior could be a dark horse to win the 2025 B&F (if Merrett misses a lot of games).

I don’t blame prior for that. JHF just gave him a really good side step

Bloke deserves some credit he was shocking in those first two games but has turned the tide and done some really good things taking big hard marks in defense

Yup, he was good tonight

I hold that getting two balled fists to the ball is harder than actually marking it.

Confidence is still probably down a bit after a shocking start to the season.
Outside of those 2 times he could have marked, played pretty well. Persist
