#26 - Archer May - thru 2028

May, Caddy and Edwards + 3 smalls. Rotate someone like Robey, Durham, Sharp, etc through to mix it up.

Tell May to crash packs, Edwards to lead and Caddy to do what he does.

Half a chance at a decent forward line.

Wright can rotate through the ruck/bench, with Bryan, if he can get and maintain decent form.

Wave goodbye to Perkins and Langford

Definitely a positive I haven’t seen it till the last few weeks but once I thought of the Treacy likeness it made me think he could be something.

Off one AFL pre season he’s coming along pretty nicely really.
No doubt he will prob bounce between the VFL/AFL this season but there is more than enough to suggest he will get a new deal.

I don’t think Brads loyalty to those changes.

Brad is a strong believer in playing someone into form, then when the form doesn’t come, an eventual delisting (see: Weideman for example)

Presented well and was rewarded. Without Caddy, it looked like we looked for the best forward option rather than kicking it on top of Caddy’s head all night. May, Edwards and Wright all got a look in and we weren’t nearly as predictable to the opposition.

Unfortunately

He’s one who will absolutely benefit from having some specialist forward coaching.

Hopefully the club are onto it…

That’s basically Jack Gunston. Limited possessions but maximum impact

We got rid of Cloke for some reason who to me seemed like the only development coach that could string a few interesting sentences together.

After he retires with 500 AFL goals and 2 Colemans, he’ll star on Man v Food where he’ll eat a 38 egg omelette and a loaf of sourdough.

Still looks to be a little overawed playing in the seniors. When he gets his confidence levels up he could be anything. Don’t drop him Super Coach.

That’s before he even attempts the eating challenge.

Yep he has to warm up his stomach so it’s in peak condition for the challenge.

Makes sense to extend his contract given what he is showing

DONS IN TALKS WITH YOUNG FORWARD

ESSENDON is in talks to extend tall forward Archie May to a new deal.

May joined the Bombers as one of four mid-season recruits last year and made his debut a month later, finishing with seven games to his name for 2025.

He nominated in the mid-season draft on an 18-month deal, meaning he was signed through to the end of 2026, but discussions are underway on an extension to have him tied to the Bombers past this year.

May kicked two goals last week against the Western Bulldogs in what was a better performance from the Bombers, with the tall forward a regular focal point for his team.

The 21-year-old was drafted from Subiaco in the WAFL competition, having shifted there from Victoria after missing out on multiple drafts. – Callum Twomey

We really get excited to sign blokes once they’ve played 2 good games. We seem so jumpy on re-signings, I don’t get the rush, despite thinking he has shown a bit the past 2 weeks.

I don’t mind throwing a 2 yr deal to a guy like May, it’s the 5+ year contracts we’re giving the senior spuds that has let us down.

Really? Treacy has vice like hands.

We look to sign them cheap before they really explode. Unfortunately explode in the Essington sense it usually means it’s their body which blows up.
