Dermie is AOK.
Yep Dermie is ok loves to give it to us but at the same time has some respect for Essendon
Ess vs Haw wouldn’t have been what it was without Dermie.
Yep agree
He would have been chuffed today with Essendon winning and having May being a part of it
He really is doing well for a non highly rated key forward of his age. Seeing why Pies wanted to stash him away.
Maybe he can make them pay Anzac Day.
Got notes of a young Tom Hawkins about him.
Very good today and last week and has huge upside. Feel like he will be an integral part of our next premiership
Absolutely love him. Great competitor. Even when he’s not marking the ball he is breaking packs and bringing it to ground (something Wright is rubbish at). Must play every game for the rest of the year
A great competitor for sure. Has the right mentality to be a long-term player. I’m not totally sold he has the tricks to be a forward in a premiership side, but if he doesn’t make it there, I think he’d work as a successor to McKay down back.
You have to be patient with these types.
Watching Shannon Neale from Geelong in their last game, has gone to another level this year. Reckon May has a similar game.
Comes as a dual pack with Dermie as his development coach.
He’s showing some very good signs. Tall, strong and mobile.
Hes played like 10 games.
I dont get the consistent questioning of players with under 30 games experience on this site.
You can only expect so much from players with less than 2 years in the league and massively less so with guys that have barely even played 10 games.
At that point in time you should be looking at what they can do rather than what they cant.
May is a pretty good contested mark already, he generally kicks straight and almost always halves a contest.
Im not really sure what more anyone can ask of a kid that has just come into the league and played his 11th game.
Id wager if you watched any young key position player you would be asking yourself the same question with this point of view.
This is not a crack at you either, just really perplexes me seeing how many posters do this. Jump over to the Archie Robert thread before the last two weeks and he’s an average player who cant kick. He has played 30 games and had back to back games of 38 and 42 disposals and is incredibly fierce in the contest.
We have been screaming for that type of player for years.
We need to start looking at what our younger guys can do rather than what they cant imo.
I said it last week and I’ll say it again
4 marks, 3 contested, 3 of those inside 50 is extremely valuable in back to back weeks.
Must persist
Any less tricks than
- Mason Cox
- Tom MacDonald
- Scott Lycett/Nathan Vardy
- Zaine Cordy
- Ryan Schoenmakers/David Hale
Leigh Brown, Chris Dawes
put the scarf on derm
do it
To be clear, I didn’t say he wouldn’t make it as a forward. I’d keep playing him there and he very well might. My central point is that I think he will make it as an AFL player, if not as a forward, as a defender. He lacks a turn of speed and isn’t spectacular in the air, but as you say, he can take a contested mark, he can kick and he’s ultra competitive. Time will tell.
I would argue that making projections based on a player’s attributes is reasonable even early in the careers. It’s essentially what drafting is all about – I don’t see why we need to start reserving opinions after players have been drafted. I totally agree with your sentiment that week-to-week sweeping conclusions on young players are ridiculous.
He is in fact quite spectacular in the air though.
13th per game in contested marks in the afl, and he’s played 11 games.
The boy can clunk them.
I’d argue that we were sold that most of those guys were up to it for their respective sides in the last quarter on Grand Final day…
