#26 Cale "Thank You Mr" Hooker - rejects a brown paper bag from FCFC

a sad day, he’s been a favourite of mine since the start when he was a skinny teenager surprising guys with a side step and an explosive burst of speed and then turning it over. So many highlights, a true club champian. But this is the right decision for the list. THanks Cale, you were a shining light when there wasn’t much light to go around.

My old man (non EFC) asked me who’s been EFC’s best player outside of Jobe since I’ve been watching (2009). I said Hooker. He laughed.
Says it all.

I’m not ready to accept this yet. He’s a ■■■■■■■ legend. My favourite player.

Before we write his eulogy, what was actually said on SEN this morning?

I can’t find anything alluding to it.

What a warrior. That last play against GWS is one of my all time favourite Bombers highlights.
That last quarter of that game just epitomised Chooka and his will to virtually drag the team to the finish line.

Absolute legend of the club.

If this is time it is so sad that we won’t get a proper farewell game.

He could have been the worst player ever and I’d have loved him just for refusing to be traded. Turns out, he was also a very very very good player down the track.

Not sure what other VFL watchers think/thought , but there was something very endearing and slightly comical about his early days in the VFL. An absolute beast emerged from a very poor side. A real , genuine fabric-of-the-club player. The number of times he was critical at both ends to us winning late in games is quite special. That ain’t luck.

So why are we carrying on like he’s done?

Maybe the club have gone to tell him he is to retire and he’s locked himself in his house.

I remember him going forward and kicking goals (many late) in these games to get us over the line - but I am sure there were a lot more. This ability to swing forward and turn a match is the rarest of talents.

2017 v Hawks (was he playing back when he kicked his 1st goal?)
2019 v Suns
2019 v GWS
2020 v Hawks (Joe’s comeback game but didn’t Cale get us going in the 2nd half?)
