#27 Mason Redman - till end 2028

Wait his feet aren’t even on the ground

Bont threw his legs up surely?

That was my assessment…the Bont clearly throws his legs up

Is it tonight or tomorrow?

they will say the arm was pinned, his feet left the ground and his head hit the turf.

sprinkle in some, possibility of injury, must protect the head etc and we are cooked.

Will be a miracle if he gets off.

Tonight

He should get off on impact. Bont doesn’t even get shook up

Big difference between the Bont and Zerrets reaction to a tackle. Bonts free arm is not free, because he elected not to protect his own farking head and held onto the the ball until he hit the ground. Zerret attempted to dispose of the ball, and in so doing got his arm free and protected himself using it.

Similar tackles but contributory negligence by Bontempelli to his own head hitting the deck. He made a conscious choice to avoid HTB and jeopardised his own brain ’

Also in the Zerret tackle did you notice Bruce trying to slow down the speed of the throw. Not to much effect, but he did try. Good player and seems to be respected by the EFC players as well.

Both tackles should have been rewarded with holding the ball. There was no intent to tackle dangerously in either and no injury resulted. Simple.

Look at the way Merrett’s head bounces there compared to Bont’s. Willing to bet he hit his head harder

It’s not Christian’s fault, there’s an AFL mandated 1 week Essendon loading.

He’s just doing what he’s told.

Bontempelli said on radio this morning that he is feeling fine and he seemed quite surprised at the suspension. I think we’ll argue the impact was low.

I will keep saying it. If the AFL instructed the umpires to blow whistle sooner you would not have sling tackles. Bont was caught well and truly before Redman made his finishing move. The amount of time they give players to get rid of the ball makes it look like a tubby maul or wrestling. Also by not blowing the whistle quicker it allows more players to get closer to the ball, causing congestion.

Therefore my thoughts are:

  1. Player is tackled and umpire blows whistle a lot quicker - think how fast Cox was pinned for holding the ball when tackled whilst bouncing - that’s what I’m looking for
  2. If the player has had prior and does not legally dispose of the footy then its holding the ball
  3. If the player has not had prior and the ball is locked in then it’s a ball up
  4. Umpire then comes in and immediately throws the ball up to open up the game
  5. Remove the ruck nomination rule and penalise the 3rd man up to remove the wasted time spent finding the ruckman which only allows more players to get to the stoppage.

Suspended until next year to serve as an example.

Our argument should be, “If it was Devon Smith tackled like that, it not only wouldn’t have been reportable, it wouldn’t have been a free kick and you would have payed holding the ball followed by a 50m because Devon would have remonstrated”.

GENERAL LITTLE ON THE MARCH. STAND BEHIND GENERAL LITTLE.

One of the worst decisions of the year but it is Essendon.

I’d just march into the tribunal full bogan style and demand someone accept it was holding the ■■■■■■■ ball!

It’s annoying watching now with the expectation that players must protect the head of the opposition, when players drop the head and lead with the head to try and get a free, and don’t even protect thier own head.
