I wouldnāt look much into the returning to home thingā¦ His home town where his family lives is pretty much half way between Adelaide and Melbourne, 4.5 hrs to Adelaide and 5.5 hrs to Melbourne.

This is why I donāt see him leaving because its either he wants the extra cash (assuming that we are OK with matching length of contract that Adelaide would offer), or he doesnāt. It canāt be about being closer to home. @Aceman raised a good point about the $850k probably being within band 1 compensation, and that would be needed to get Redman out of EFC, but beyond that, it seems to be a question of $$$.
Not having a go at you but it has been mentioned at least half a dozen times already.

I think the difference between earning $600 000 and $800 000 is minimal after tax?

Given our highest tax bracket is 45%, itās still a significant difference.
And thatās before deductions/etc.
Probably still over $100k per year difference and thatās before deductions and other ways of minimising your tax
