#27 Mason Redman - till end 2028

He appeared to be THE backline coach. Not exactly the actions of someone who’s out the door

To me Port wouldn’t be interested in a HBF when they are a very good chance to get Perryman and Cumming as FAs already.

They will want good picks for Houston, it’s likely to be a very good move by them.

Embarrassing. Get your own house in order before telling others what to do Mason.
This guy is a huge part of the problem at the club. All talk!

Spot on which is why we should stay out of the race we have too many holes in our list to trade away for one player

He’s really not. He’s a good player, coming off the back of two very strong years, who’s had a disappointing season. He’s committed to the club, and I reckon it’s great he’s out there supporting the VFL guys.

I’m hopeful that he will be able to get back to his best next year, especially if Martin is taken out of defence.

Agree to disagree. We overrate our own massively and Mason is a great example of this.
He doesn’t defend and folds under any pressure, he’s now finished off two seasons in a row extremely poorly.

Our defenders spend far too much time crabbing sideways disposals and marks, each getting 20-25+ possessions whilst achiving nothing going forwards and struggling to defend.

Lloyd called the back six “crab bombers” on the footy show lol

There is no run or dare from the back line it’s just chip it side ways, backwards and when we do it get forward the fwd line is a congested mess because oppo has set up defensilvy

One play he showed was Laverde. he marks the ball, had a player run past him as an option all he had to do was give a hand ball but instead holds up the play and goes back on the mark

McGrath is the worst offender of “crabbing”.

Yep he’s the main culprit of it.

If we can sort out the backline with how they move the ball and defend we will do ok imo

Brad is right the foundation is there in terms of competing doing the hard things etc it’s just between the archs that’s letting us down and some class

I honestly don’t believe McGrath is guilty of crabbing much at all.
I wonder what data there could be to support this.

McKay, LAV, Kelly & Hepp all far worse.
Ridds may even be worse.

They have to crab as none of them use the ball well enough to kick through the opposition.

I yell at the tv for them to play on at all costs

I’m happy to cop a turn over the other way if playing on at all costs doesn’t come off at least us playing fast puts pressure on the oppo and gives us a chance to score

It’s why Kelly MUST be retired along with Heppell, with LAV being strictly depth only.

McGrath is lock down the smalls.
Get some good kicks back there.

Yes - we can’t have all of the crabs in there at once. Remember when we had Saad and McKenna running and creating!

We have Redman who can run and create we need another one

McGrath (lock down)
McKay
Redman
Ridley

Build around this

Mckay,Ridley,McGrath do the defending

Yep - but his kicking has been off this year with plenty of direct turnovers like the one against GC. The running HBFs are there as the Cats have just found another one in Lawson H.
