#29 Jye Menzie - thru 2025

Although I’ve defended him a bit (ie. he must be doing things that the coaches like), and he’s a scrapper, I would advocate shipping him back to Tassie…except I’m Tasmanian.

I wish we’d give Hobbs, Tsatas, Hind a decent run like they’ve done with this bloke.

Can we please find out who signed off on his new contract? Rosa or Dudoro?

Does it really matter? It’s not like dodoro is hiding in the janitor closest signing secret deals

It would have been a collective decision by the whole team, including Scott, and they should all share in the blame

It does to me because if it was Rosa OMG!!! We have no hope!

The point is…
It wouldn’t come down to one person.
Group decision.

And yes…
I’d say Rosa would have a say in the decision and given he hasn’t handed in his resignation after the signing, I’d say he’s accepts the decision that’s come about (regardless of his own personal opinions).

Weirdly though he had those traits of a genuine small forward when playing for south Adelaide, if you go back and watch some of he’s highlights he was quick and crafty.
Even last year running a goal a game as a small forward in our rabble of a forward line was pretty decent so I have no idea what happened to him, is it a weird case of second year blues, is he being instructed to play a role that doesn’t suit him who knows.

No … it would’ve.

If Brad said “I don’t see it and rather not re-sign him”, then it wouldn’t have happened. So he obviously did sanction it as the head coach of EFC.
On his shoulders be it.

Wait…
But that doesn’t feed into the rhetoric that the guy who is signing the contracts is trying to sabotage the club and working against the football department.

Obviously, if Scott wants him on the list, that’s the first port of call.
The terms and conditions wouldn’t be with him. That would be between the player, his agent and list management.

It’s similar to Massimo. We offered a contract. So Scott wanted him on the list. But there was no agreement on terms so Massimo looked elsewhere. Voss on the other hand was left to be delisted. Ditto Munkara. Ditto Rhett. Ditto McBride. Ditto anyone else who isn’t offered a contract this year.

It’ll be the same deal with draftees and strategy. Closely tied to what the coach and the club’s direction is over the next 3 to 5 years.

Having said that, there were a lot of changes after the saga as far as responsibilities. Coach didn’t have direct say in who assistants were, etc so there was a period of time where those responsibilities may not have been as strongly tied to the wishes of the coach as they are now.

I agree. Anyone who has done their ACL will tell you that it takes a year to get full confidence in the reconstruction after you’ve done all the rehab and rebuilding of strength and endurance.

Jayden is learning the ropes this year and it’s understandable if he’s a bit timid in getting right into the hard stuff as his brain is telling him to protect his knee. Next year is the key for him.

Plain and simple, Jye Menzie is an honest footballer, who works hard, and has some decent AFL traits, but in the grand scheme of things he’s a spud and we have wasted his games this year. Of course if Guelfi was fit Menzie wouldn’t be getting a game.

Jeepers. That means even Alwyn is ranked higher.

Good post. I honestly can’t see how a fringe player would be signed up mid-year without it being Scott’s call. Or the coaching team as a minimum.

It’s weird some Blitzers think the list management team would know more about our current list than the coaches who spend most days a week working with them, knowing what their instructions were on game day, evaluating them, giving feedback to them, and making decisions on who gets a senior game and what role they should play in. There is no possibility the list management team would know that level of detail. The coaches are the obvious ones to be making calls on who we want to keep or delist (or upgrade).

There is absolutely 0 chance that Scott wasn’t at the centre of his re-signing. None.

People just want another reason to pot Dodoro - this one is not on him (there are plenty of things that are). The list management guys would have worked out the details of the contract, but it absolutely would have been Scott and the coaching panel making the call that he should be retained.

Tracking 2024 Player Ratings for where Essendon Players rank amongst all 521 AFL players with 6+ games this year.

These particularly concern me:
392nd - Jayden Laverde
399th - Harry Jones
423rd - Jake Kelly
473rd - Nik Cox
511th - Alwyn Davey Jr
521st - Jye Menzie

Even if you take out the 6 game qualifier, Menzie is still ranked 627th out of 650 players to have played any games this year.

That’s brutal.

Keep sending him up though, I’m sure it’ll work out eventually.
