Get on him for most improved next year.
So he’s literally the worst ranked player in the league.
What if you filtered the list down to players that were born on the same day as him.
Does he finish #1 on that list ?
He’s the worst ranked player in the league to have play 6+ games.
The worst ranked player in the league in total is Charlie Clarke from the Bulldogs, with a rating of -4.10 from his 1 game. (Menzie is 2.35. Bont is the best with 19.66)
It’s interesting that 6 games was chosen as the cut-off, because if it was 5 games, the worst ranked player in the league is… Patrick Voss.
Yikes.
I mean, your eye tells you he is crap when watching the games, stats back it up.
What the hell are the coaches thinking constantly selecting him and WTF did we re-sign him?
Bewildering.
Lot’s of Menzie bashing in here. I got an interesting view of it though from a mate at work (Collingwood fan) who is a) a pretty good footballer himself and b) watches almost every game and has close to an encylopedic knowledge of players (truly amazes me at times). We were discussing why we kept Parish when Hobbs is essentially the same player and would Hobbs leave at the end of the year. I said that Parish is ahead of Hobbs on nearly every level except when it come s to turning around and running har to defend. Good tackler and involved if the ball is between him and the goals, terrible if it is behind him.
I then asked who Hobbs would replace in the team. He is clearly behind, Merrett, Caldwell and Durham, and Sheil has probably been in our best five for most of the last few weeks. I asked him if it might be Menzie and he said straight up, “Nah, Menzie is okay, I’d drop Gresham”. I told him that was an interesting take and that most Essendon fans would disagree. His response was that Menzie actually gets to where he is meant to be, you can’t teach that. Composure can come with time. Gresham on the other hand contribures almost nothing.
As I said, an interesting take from an unbiased spectator.
Tsatas is the like for like Parish replacement.
you sid it yourself, it can for some, not for all. see repeated poorly executed skills is my gripe with menzie, he runs around a lot, cool great, we could put a sash on a border collie for that.
I agree with that he is going through a weird period and I don’t know if it’s role or second year blues perhaps being asked to focus on defending.
He’s time at Souths he was a good small forward and pretty quick then last year a goal a game is pretty good going so there is plenty to work with.
Still has problems with his shoulders surely?
just can’t get his hands above his head unless he has no other option. Like trying to take a chest mark and body someone under the ball in the goal Square.
It’s just not gonna cut it as a small forward. In fact a small anything….
Good post!
Kelly should be lower
The stats don’t agree with any of that guys opinions.
Running to positions on the field cant be taught? Menzie is where he is supposed to be? I think Menzie is supposed to put on pressure ant tackles in the foward line, he is meant to actually pick up the ball and do something with it.
No doubt we have lost games this year to to the constant selection of Menzie and his average of 3 touches.
I thought he played very consistently to his previous few weeks form, when he came on.
I hope we don’t waste the sub spot on him next week.
Why wasn’t he sent for surgery earlier? It’s not as if he would have been missed.
What was it for?
From the photo, shoulder / collarbone area.
That explains his drop off from AA form earlier in the season
