#29 Jye Menzie - thru 2025

Brad sees something in Weid and Menzie that no one else sees.

What’s this got to do with Menzie?

Really? Like could you really?

We have a lot of guys who give up in a heartbeat or go out already sooking

I’d say giving 100% effort is a somewhat rare thing at this club to be honest

Having said that I dont think he is anywhere close to good enough which is a shame cos I liked him early days

I can’t see either Menzies or Weideman being useful to us moving forward and should delist or trade them. However, with Menzies recent surgery, he probably stays on as it is believed he was held back by his injury. If true, then I hope he does well.

Then why ■■■■■■■ play him? The club is so inconsistent in its standards, so how the ■■■■ do we expect consistency in standards from the players?

If he isn’t delisted (should’ve been already), hope people start to realise why….

Playing an injury impacted plodder … how very Essendon.

Not a big Menzie fan, but he looks to have put in a huge amount of fitness work in recent months. He is looking in very good physical condition.

Hopefully indicative of standards and pressure/competition amongst the playing group.

My read on Menzie is that he is quicker than people think, he is more skilled than people think, and he has plenty of upside with a couple more preseasons. I certainly agree he was pretty rubbish last year but I hope that’s an anomaly. He was playing underdone and he will be a slow burn who gets better every year. Admittedly I’m optimistic…I thought B Ham would be a slow burn improver as well. :grinning:

I reckon he’ s been pretty harshly judged. He’s been played out of position and clearly lost confidence in the back end of the year but he showed enough in 2023 alone to be hopeful that he’ll be a worthwhile contributor next year. If hes gotten fitter, even more so.

One thing’s for sure and that’s that he will not be as poor as he was in season 2024.

I think he’s far too limited from an athletic and football perspective to be worth persisting with and I was very critical of him but by the same token I can admit that it was clear that his level isn’t as bad as what we saw.

Like any Essendon player I hope he has an unencumbered run at it and is allowed to be the best player he can be. And he will be better. Ultimately though I don’t think that will be enough and we’ll move past him with guys who pose more of a threat offensively and defensively.

Last season was 100% Brad Scott’s fault for continually picking him when his form didn’t deserve it. Didn’t allow him any time to build form and confidence in the 2s. Did the same the year before with Weidman when he went through that goalless period at AFL level.

My issue with Menzie is that he’s never been a great pressure forward so when not kicking goals he’s not contributing. But he is certainly underrated in the fact he’s only had 2.5 years in the system and has only just turned 22 so has plenty of room for improvement.

His confidence was smashed this year. As a small forward you need to take your half chances and he just couldn’t capitalise when previously he had. He’s a better player than he showed but I still don’t know if he has the upside to be best 22. Hard to judge given how screwed up our forward system was.

Jye the almost player, if he can find and extra 5% in his pace, skills and composure he’ll do well.
