I honestly reckon Mills will end up the 4th best player of those 4.
Daniel should have got it.
Sure he is eligible but he had 1 extra pre-season and a year of maturation compared with the other 3.
And?
And if that is taken into account he would be expected to perform better at AFL level. So is it an outright contest or are there"handicap " factors?
Was Mills assisted by playing in a gun team, were Darcy and Weitering handicapped by playing in 2 poor sides. Because there are a lot of factors that are not equal.
Yeah but heâs also crazy short for an AFL player, thatâs a handicap. Just base it off their 2016
Bar parish, fantasia will be the best of the lot i reckon
I reckon, too.
And who the â â â â cares about the Rising Star? Have a look at the names on the panel. The CEO of the league doesnât even watch the â â â â â â â game, and is doing his best to run it into the ground. Heâs got a nice house though. Plays polo apparently. What a â â â â -up of an organisation.
I added this to The Age this afternoon under the alias of Statsman. For what itâs worth⌠(in response to my total disbelief in Parish not even getting in the top 3)
No Zach Merrett in the AA Squad, Parish miles back on the RS. You Bombers just need the AFL to give Brisbane a priority pick now to continue the misery just that little bit longer.
When you compare Heppels first year (and RS winner) and Parishâs, Parish (on paper at least) had the better season. More tackles laid, twice the clearances, more contested possessions and twice the goals. Heppell was in a side that made the finals and arguably had better âprotectionâ with other senior players around. Parish was the second midfielder behind Zaharakis. Very stiff.
I know there is more to a performance than merely statistics, but they play a major part in any award these days - Parish also beats Mills in total disposals, contested possessions, goals, tackles, 1 percenters, goal assists, clearances and inside 50s.

It's a joke that Mills playing a cushy role of half back wins it where as Darcy helps to carry our midfield misses out
Donât think anyone on here was complaining about Heppell getting to play a cushy role of half back the year he won it over the likes of Shuey playing in the middle and Zac Smith playing in the ruck.

Yeah, goes to show though. Parish was thrown into to deep end in the middle in his first season and prospered. Imagine if he had the luxury of creating off half back? Weâll never know now.
Fantasia got 29 goals as a small forward in 19 games, when he only player in that position for maybe 10 of them in the team that finished bottom and for most of the year barely kicked 10 goals a match. Yet does not poll a single vote!
Parish averages over 20 touches a game and half of them contested, playing in the middle, in the bottom team. He only finished fourth! His stats would stack up well against all of the other previous midfield winners of this award.
Above and the omission of Zach Merrett from the 40 man AA squad tells me that this year for Essendon was never going to get any love from the so called media experts and judging panels.
I donât really care about these awards because all that matters is premierships, and the three players listed above along with the other young players we have will form the basis of that next premiership side. I do find the exclusion amusing though.
Agree with what you say. If you look at the voting by person, Gillon was the only person out of 10 who did not give a vote to Darcy. Some gave as high as 3 out of a maximum of 5. Why am I not surprised at that.
Wtaf is the CEO of the comp doing voting in farking awards anyway. Just run the â â â â â â â game in the best interests of the game and stop with the whole celebrity wannabe bullshit.
Maybe it is the cynic in me, but gilligan is pushing this woman in football/womanâs football league all the way to an OAM, you farken watch. It sickens me.
No offense is meant by any of that to the woman who are actually trying their guts out to get on a list. Good on you, enjoy your football

Heppell played half back in his RS year, much like Mills did this year. Naturally Parish won more clearances, tackles , possessions and inside-50s from the midfield, just like Shuey did in Hepâs year.
Parish wasnât our second midfielder this year behind Zaka. He was behind Merrett (how did you forget him), Zaka, Goddard, Cooney and Kelly (when playing midfield). Those players all won more ball than Parish this year. So while he had a great first year, on stats, which you have based your argument, Parish was the fifth best midfielder in the bottom side in the comp.
