#3 - Darcy Parish thru 2029 (Part 3, from April 2025)

Just looking up this mystery guy you’ve highlighted. Wikipedia says -

Pish Posh Parish?

Sure. I think that’s made up by a troll.

Same troll seems to have posted the whole “All Australian” malarkey… yeah right.

If healthy yes. I understand everyone including me being very nervous of them breaking down again. If they dont then they have a big impact. But i am still nervous on repeat injuries.

I’d say there’s a portion that don’t rate him and are waiting for him to shank another easy kick before doing victory laps on it.
There’s another group that have him in the Merrett, Langford, McGrath, Ridley, Redman group of failure and will be the next lot of calls to PlAy ThE KiDs during the weekly changes thread.
There’s another group that won’t buy in to whatever he’s doing during pre-season. This time last year, Shiel looked great, so anyone should look good against our seconds team.
Then there’s another group that looks at him as a bonus if he ever does return to any kind of decent form. They’ll probably just ride the form until it ends.

Personally, I’m not sure where he fits into our midfield group. His best position is as a midfielder and I cannot see him being as good in another position. I’m not sure how that works with Durham, Merrett and Caldwell let alone once you add Sharp and Tsatas to develop. And you also expect Kako to get the odd CBA.

I’m just hoping there’s a back to his best DP3 mode.

Talk about being a fizzer since he has a career best year and signed the long term deal. Injuries I think

When fit he is our best pure midfielder.

Issue is getting him fit.

We’re at a point now where he’s not an important part of our next Flag tilt and that’s a good thing imo.

Happy that he’s doing well right now but it’s not going to to severely impact the team if he goes down, it would give more opportunity to the next Gen if anything.

It’s based on his love of musical theatre, he’s played the rôle in 3 different Mikado productions

And keep him fit, another breakdown will be disastrous

Winning clearance isn’t enough nowadays he needs to become a better at defending and help stop the opposition spread, so often he would walk around and not lay a glove on an opponent.

Not to mention his kicking last year was going at 29 percent only slightly better then smart and vigo.

It’s not just that. Is his type of player becoming redundant in today’s AFL? Yes, high possession winner, but there is little hurt factor with ball in hand. Also lacks accountability defensively, not overly quick, not a big goal scorer and no 2nd string to his bow. I hope for his own sake he plays 20+ games. End of the day he’s a bloke who has had a wretched run of injury and he’d simply just want to play footy regularly. What happens after that, I’m pretty ambivalent. If he got traded, wouldn’t be overly fussed. If he stayed and recaptured his 2021 form, great.

Obviously last year is not the year to judge him off as he only played a few games and was underdone when he did play.

His kicking is fine.

Some ppl are put off by the odd shank and the awkward ball drop but his efficiency, meters gained, retention and score involvements all stack up with the best inside mids in the comp (2021-2024).

I will get roasted for this, but if he gets a good run at it, he could regain his spot as our 2nd best player.

Top 5 in the league for score involvements has no hurt factor?

This post has an air of Trumpian alternative facts

Who would want Darcy Parish ?

  • All Australian
  • Anzac day medal
  • Yiooken award
  • Tom Wills medal

Yep, and when did he win those? 5 years ago now. He’s 28, and coming off successive seasons heavily impacted by injuries. Again, I wish him all the best and hope he can stay fit and play good footy for us in 2026. Whether that’s simply for us to fatten him up for market and use him as a trade asset or to be a genuine component of our midfield moving forward, time will tell.

Hopefully his career trajectory at 28 goes more Higgins than Hanneberry.

When he was OOC no one wanted him tbf.

Personally I think he is the type of mid the game has started to go past.

Accumulator that lacks speed and doesn’t hurt with the ball.

We’ve seen Brownlow medalist Tom Mitchell delisted at 32 so I think the game is moving past that type of mid.

I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see him as the damaging mid we need.

Let him play golf but keep him well away from the 19th hole.
