Hes legit scared of touching the football. Four disposals tonight. 3 marks. And its not like he’s defensively elite that he keeps his man in check that you can wear the fact hes not great with ball in hand.

What a shocking footballer, just like his brother.

At this stage I don’t even care if doesn’t get any possessions or doesn’t help others in the defence as long as he beats his direct man, but he can’t even do that now.

I don’t get why people are so critical of this bloke. Neither Darcy or Naughton were dominant against him. Sure they got a few kicks, but any expectation that he will win every contest is unrealistic.

He is not a star, but he does a job. Like those before him, it’s difficult defending a player when the ball comes in under no pressure.

He is garbage but Sam Darcy kicked 1 goal on him since they moved him onto him. Darcy absolutely destroyed Reid. Again he is garbage and has hardly any impact, but he didn’t get destroyed tonight by any means

It’s a low bar but easily our best tall defender and had at least 2 kicked on him from ā– ā– ā– ā–  free kicks

As of next year he will cost us $400k per season. I mean some one might even pick him up for that, so we may not lose anything. His first three years were $1.5, $1.1 and $1 million this year. His next three years are at base salary of $400k per year for 3 more years. So imagine how hard he’ll be trying when he is on $400k

ok sorry , but I’ll say again try him there before the skip bin . we still have nothing to lose and he’s a net liability where he plays at the moment

its ridiculous the amount of crap this bloke cops. he doesnt get the ball, but i couldnt give a fat rats clacker about a FB not getting the ball. For the most part, he is decent as a stopper.

He should be getting praised for stopping the heater that Darcy was destined to in the first half. in the second half, Darcy looked impotent. Yes, the second half team defensive up the field was there, and McKay more than did his role in limiting his opponent (beyond some umpire interventions)

My main frustration with him is he was brought in on big money to lead our defence and time after time in the huddles after goals I watch Archie Roberts be the one that is being vocal and trying to add leadership while McKay says nothing.

McKay has earnt more money in the last 2 seasons than any other Essendon player has in the clubs history over the same period.

Its fair that the fans expect a certain level of performance, and he clearly has fallen short.

I don’t agree with the jeering of one of our players during a match, but let’s not pretend he hasn’t been disappointing !

We knew what we were getting. If he went to the Hawks instead of coming to us, he would be a completely different player.

I can’t say it enough, that our backline players are all dead man walking everytime the ball comes into the 50. Defence is a full ground thing for the good sides. This is a brad scott issue, not a Ben McKay issue.

People say they see Ben walking 10m away from his opponent all the time. If he isn’t doing the right thing, where is the coaching? If they are coaching him and he isn’t listening, where are the repercussions? I personally think the players are confused and it results in panic. We don’t have great kicks in the side, but they are far better than they have shown. You don’t have to be a genius to work out that we played our best footy on the weekend when they simplified the gameplan and they went man on man in the 3rd quarter. For some reason we went back to the zone in the 4th and looked rubbish again.

McKay was never going to be the vocal guy. Brad would have known this.

He was brought to be the defender on the gorilla forwards - given they’d smashed us over the years - but anyone with a degree of foresight (i.e. no one at Essendon) could have seen were a dying breed post Tomahawk.

why do you care about the money he earns? Someone has to receive big coin given the mandate to pay 95% of the salary cap.

Paying a salary cap floor minimum is a totally seperate argument when you are as crap as we are. Based on output, we should be allowed to only pay 50% of the cap!

You have to pay more to bring in players from other teams as free agents. As supporters we just gotta deal with it. To be honest, front loading McKays pay seems a very pragmatic decision.

He should go play for clone_hirdy’s club if he loves him so much
