#32 - Ben McKay

He also kicked the winning goal 35 m out directly in front. High pressure goal. That was a great game.

It coincided with a stint where I was spraying them around playing FF in my junior team, prompting them to start calling me ā€œFishā€.

I was ok with it as Salmon was my favourite player as a kid.

All fixed … Straight back in

I hope he smashes it.

At this point I would take Mason as international signing over Mckay

Didn’t make the final team

Gives real Sam Weideman at CHB vibes. It’s over just pay him out and him and and his twin can have tea and biccies at Fogdogs property

I reckon @Paul_Peos may have said this, or something similar when we recruited him

Its like we we’re that traumatised by hawkins/kennedy likes monstering us for years, we went and got a big, key defender to play on guys like that.

Except he doesn’t play like a big, key defender. For someone his size, its quite incredible how easily he gets pushed off the ball, or loses a strength battle

Hawkins would be licking his lips if he was in the F50 with Ben McKay.

(Licking his own lips)

Yeah BZT played some okay footy that year but got monstered by the Hawkins types, so we went and gave McKay loads of cash to play on them as you said.

Since then, the game has dramatically moved away from the gorilla forwards and we now have a bloke playing reserves that we’ve paid on average $1M. He’s the solution to a problem that hasn’t existed for 2 years.

He simply has no athleticism, cannot run, cannot jump no agility. turning circle of a truck

Needs to be left int he square 1v1 and play as a stopper he’s not an athletic key back that can run and jump

Other than that though…

His problem isn’t ability imo, it’s all between the ears, soft, zero confidence in himself and can’t handle expectation.

It absolutely is ability.

He can mark, sometimes, when the ball is on his head and the opposition is focussed on the ball.

If he has another AFL level quality, then I haven’t seen it.

I’ve really jumped into this chat very late. But have we discussed Ben playing forward for a change? I know, it’s against everything I believe in - in terms of giving players continuity in their spot. Buy he did play forward as a junior i read today (can’t confirm that’s true). Maybe focusing on the just the ball coming into the forward line may release him a bit - mentally. Especially if Lewis Hayes gets into the team soon.
