#32 - Ben McKay

It’s all in the head with Ben. There is a good footballer there but it needs a clear mind to be unlocked.

A positive coach could do it, which could be McVeigh, but I reckon a fresh start would help him. I could see him playing good footy under Craig McRae who is positive and gives players one job to do.

He actually looked decent at full forward for those couple of weeks…

If we kept Gresham on $700K a year in the Magoos to prevent him from hitting his trigger, I am happy enough to keep McKay in the VFL to see out his contract.

Given the massive drop in his salary, his management would be remiss if they didn’t find a possible trade to a higher paying club.

If Ben is on about 400k a year we will find a trade for him. 3rd or 4th rounder. And I would do it, need to clean out.

You can go into threads like this, Harry Jones, Archie Perkins and find people saying “one more year” or “there’s a player in there.”

Oh. My. God. Please. Stop.

We simply have to most past these players. We have to. I’m tired of giving guys who’ve been in the system for years more chances. These are all players who have provided MINIMAL TO NO impact in a wooden spoon team, and people want to roll em out again. ■■■■ no.

Do find it interesting how gleeful Tom Morris is about announcing the McKay news

As you know the AFL’s rules are absolutely made up on the run. We present the case for why we need to bring his salary forward and they can link it to our assistance package. Everyone wins.

Playing the mental health card might just work.

He’s always got a smug look on his face.

ben mckay is one of those players where news is always guaranteed to get clicks, thats why they keep using him as a punching bag. :man_shrugging:

(take your head out of bomber fandom and it gets pretty noticable how often they love to report on mckay and tsatis way more than anyone else)

Not sure if it’s Ben McKay that gets the clicks. I think it’s just Essendons history of failures. That’s what gets clicks. Our laundry list of failed trades and mistakes is guaranteed to get people engaged.

We are cleaning house of Dodoros bad decisions, I reackon we can offload him without a need for picking up his remaining smaller salary.

Throw in a pick purchase next year with Paying Parish remaining salary for a first rounder and no bids on Bewick and co.

Gresham being the most expensive VFL player in history. But delisted FA at the end of the year and potentially Ridley gone. We are well on our way to cleaning house.

It will certainly make us a club with some cash to throw around in 28. Both to secure our own players future and attracting a few others.

Which mean we have some cash to splash for 27/28 on some experience players like Rampe, Greene and others.

I mean I’m no fan but delisting him when he’s got 3 years to go and we have fa KPD options?

Yikes, he must be completely cooked.

I reckon the Saints might have a sniff.

Pay his whole Salary for the remaining 3 years and try to pry a Pick between the late 30’s/early 40’s for a team in need of a KB.

Just feels like something they would do, and now with Howard retiring they may be looking for cheap back up options to make sure they keep Wilkie free as the intercept option.
