Yeah seemed to play wing on Saturday. His work rate is good and he’s willing in the contest but just doesn’t have the size to impact and he doesn’t do any damage with the ball.
Yeah I guess if you’re small you better be creative and hit targets.
The irony being that it was the Bulldogs who we “stole” Lual from by taking him at pick 39 as he was in their NGA Academy.
I didn’t like it on draft day and I still don’t.
Credit to the kid though, he’s taking his swing with everything he’s got. But to my eyes he looked like a rookie selection at best and was shocked we took him at 39.
It felt to me on the day that is was Disco being a clever ■■■■ expecting dogs to match and take out their 43.
My brother reckons freijah was always their target
All I know is Freijah has looked like an exceptional footballer basically from game 1. The Dogs have done very well there.
To be honest even Joe Fonti for the Giants played some great footy and appears to be a nice prospect.
Ah well.
Guess it’s the second incarnation of this…
Yep and now starting to look comfortable in the midfield in his second year. He’s the player we wish Redman was
Freijah is a natural footballer with a perceived low ceiling, we selected the athlete with a high upside. Typical dodoro pick imo.
Freijah was the better footballer and still is
Freijah also has a ready to go build unlike our skinny kids that have been in the AFL system for 5 years.
It’s funny, I wouldn’t have even said Freijah was the inferior athlete…
I mean he’s 190cm and has good speed for his size and he finished 8th at the draft combine for the 2km time trial.
While Lual didn’t get a top 10 finish in anything at the draft combine and is 181cm.
Yeah I don’t think lual is a stand out athlete. Not explosive and his endurance seems to be at just a decent level.
Then you look what roberts brings to the table from day one at pick 54, the lual pick just leaves you scratching your head. I just don’t see anything to suggest you’d look at him at 39.
I legit think Disco was just tooling with the dogs and they burned him. Thank God he’s gone
ROGERS
Haha, he’s back
Before the guardian angels of Blitz lose their mind, none of us are questioning Lual’s attitude and commitment to get the best out of himself and we all hope he succeeds. It’s more a commentary about his lack of stand out traits (football and athletic) that makes you question our drafting philosophy and the quality that we left on the table by taking him so early. None of which is his fault obviously.
Tip toeing through the busts after our picks like a minefield only to grab the gem in amongst them?
“nope
nope
Nope
Nope
THIS GUY
nope
not him…
nope”
I haven’t really studied him closely but he just seems to lack a combo of poise, decision making and kicking that would make him seriously seriously valuable.
The comparisons with CJ from HFC are obvious (where was he last week btw?) but Lual’s runs just seem to end with a really loose, ill-directed kick. It kind of undoes his whole value prop.
Will be delisted at seasons end, an obvious one

I said in the other post i watched heaps of under age footy that particular year and i never rated lual. He was short, not that quick and not damaging by foot.
I think at that stage though we needed hbf’s and the south Sudanese kids were taking the world by storm, cj was firing as a back flanker and he was a rookie pick, so it was assumed these kids had heaps of upside.
The difference with lual was though, he wasn’t exactly late to footy and lived and breathed the game in warnambool. He was best mates with George Stephens the ultimate professional.
The things he does have are courage, endurance and nice hands below his knees. If Rath worked with him on his kicking he may still be a chance to make it, but yeah 39 was way too high imo.
