#34 - Luamon Lual

Has he ever shown any defensive ability in the VFL? He’s quick enough and has the stamina to keep up with just about any small. Guessing they’re putting him on a wing because he lacks defensive traits?

He’s just a kid. I doubt he weighs 70 kg. The question is whether he’ll grow, like eg Mabior Chol, who was a skinny kid when he started.

He is 20, doubt he will get any taller and I have my doubts he will muscle up much. Reckon he needs to perform consistently in VFL to stay on the list. He really looked lost at times tonight.

Not on his own though.

Didn’t think much of his VFL form but pleasantly surprised with his debut game. His second game was pretty poor but wasn’t alone in that regard.

I think the coaches rate his unrewarded running and has lead to his selection, which basically puts him in the basket of despised but rated internally. Same as Jones, Ham, Cox etc.

I was at the match and he was regularly open for pass, they didn’t use him. Not sure why not

Looked to be a few steps away from his appointment and to be honest, he looked lost tonight.
Nothing wrong with dropping back to the VFL to regain confidence. Good sides do that

One time the TV caught he was wide open on the 50 and the EFC player (Merrett?) kicked to contests out from goal. So I’d believe you.

I can see glimpses with this kid, I think he could become pretty handy if he was at a club with a good development program. And that’s obviously not us.

I’m always shocked when people start questioning young players after a massive loss. Everybody would have look ■■■■■, especially a kid against a seasoned veterans at Geelong.

He’s actually done better than I thought he would. Admittedly it’s a low bar to get over, but his skill level is alright. It’s his football IQ which I don’t think is there, and may never get to an acceptable level. His best chance is being a rebounding HB. Use his opponent as a point of reference and attack from there. Run to exhaustion, and when you get it take the game on.

He played on one of the best wingers in the league.

Yep, your point being?

I’m not putting him down.
He’s just not ready.
In time he may but playing him against Blicavs and Dempsey is so unfair

I agree with all that.

Handled terribly by the coaches last night.

Showed good signs in game one and he was just thrown to the wolves on blicavs.

Keep playing him, we a crap anyway.

Who else would you have played on Blicavs?

If Cox and Harry Jones were fit and uninjred we could have rotated them through Blicavs along with duursma.

What do want them to do? The whole idea is to learn and you can learn from the best. Do you want the coaches to hide young players somewhere. There is no where to hide players in today’s game. They have to learn the hard way.

Sheeds used to live to give them a challenge, being spanked by the best can motivate guys and let them get really focussed on what they need to work on. The footage review for him with his line coach over what he did and what Biscavs did would have been incredibly valuable.

Clarke was the obvious matchup. 6min 2km time trial I mean its not 5:30 like Blicavs but he is 30+ now, our best runner, plus he had height to compete in the air. would have relished the challenge like he did when matched up on Jezza.

Blicavs ran Lual and Day-Wicks into the ground. Lual could have played a defensive role.

From what I saw live Clarke did spend some time on Blik but lacked the running power of Lual to keep up.
