Yeah I’d agree with that, when it comes to fan led media.
If there has been a supposed shift in how content creators operate in terms of being effusive with positivity in their content, I’d say the shift has been millimetric. The Carlton video you alluded to; what was the fallout from that? I didn’t read or see anything that indicated Fark Carlton were upset by its release. Funnily enough, after watching them play Sydney, it turns out that video demonstrated a few ‘truths’!!
there was no actual fallout, the only reason it got some people bristling is because dan gorringe made a post about it taking the ■■■■ out of carlton which went viral(ish)
Shame about his injury. To me he is on the edge of the 23 so might not have played round 1. I reckon Johnson edged him out.
Syndesmosis. I’m starting to wonder whether the burgeoning tally of syndesmosis injuries, Clarke’s being the latest, is caused by insufficient footwear.
Nowadays, the shoes worn on the field by footballers are like runners with spikes, and give no support to the ankle. In my day - a long long time ago - we wore real boots, which covered and supported the ankle - and syndesmosis injury was almost unheard of.
It is often argued that the current low-cut football shoes are needed to provide increased lateral movement in the physically demanding current game. That’s all very well, but what is the benefit of increased lateral mobility in the ankle, if it risks a serious syndesmosis injury which will keep you out of the game for several months ?
Is it not time to seriously consider bringing back real footy boots ?
Its more the taping . I did notice a shift at the end of my playing career the way they tape ankles now. And it was the way the trainers were being taught. It has mare lateral side support than medial
It’s a valid point, I was only recently pondering whether the prevalence of hamstrings injures was related to players no longer wearing knickerbockers. I think there should also be a study on the correlation between the the absence of caps and concussion.
Yes, and 46 players file past the maggots pre game to feel up the stops for protruding nails !
Main reason we are seeing more of them is that they were under-diagnosed previously.
They were those pesky “2-3 week” ankle sprains that turned into 6-8 and nobody knew why.
Idk about.
The taping (regardless of how it’s done) would lose the bulk of the rigidity by the player has finished their warm up.
And all the boot strap taping technique (industry standard for a syndesmosis) did was cut into my skin and give me a numb foot lol.
I recon the overall tone of training reports on Blitz has been more negative than in the past tbh.
It’s a good thing too because I think it more accurately demonstrates where we’re at as a club.
Bring back the boot studder!!
I think the latest trainng reports are more balanced than the wildly optomisitic reports of past seasons.
We also need to look in to giving players the freedom to pin their own sash according to their individual needs, as evidenced in the above photo.
We are denying players autonomy when it comes to torso support.
Potential legal minefield.
Ah yes, Dingus. That photo shows the Essendon Sashwearers team visiting Adelaide in 1891. No doubt you remember the match, old man.
I must admit I was a little disillusioned with the direction the game was heading by that point and had lost interest.
Plus I was very busy with my ivory importing concern.
The syndesmosis ligaments are not medial. A lack of medial support is not likely to be a cause for syndesmosis injuries.
I agree with Eastie boi on the misdiagnosis front. Lots of former footballers with long term ■■■■■■ ankles from a syndesmosis injury that was never previously picked up.
They’re also yet to validate the gold standard on imaging for it as yet.
Surely you meant unlikely?
Correct. I swear i edited that, but have done so again now.
And to clarify on the mechanism of injury. It is typically the ankle being loaded (usually with external load from a tackler as well) and the ankle being forced in to dorsiflexion and/or some external rotation of the tibia, that forces the talus up into the tib/fib and separates those ligaments.
Tape simply is not doing anything for that.
