Outside of Kako, this kid is the one I’m most excited about from the latest crop of draftees.
Huge upside IMO, hasn’t really been in a full time program yet and will need some size but I love his attitude and having another mid-sized running/intercepting defender with a nice kick is exactly what we need.
Kako will be the best performer next year, and may be as big a contributor to efc as walla over the journey as a cult figure.
of the rest, I’m probably most excited about Zac Johnson.
A bit taller mid than we are used to, ability to play forward and back, has genuine leadership qualities, won his club B&F, is a goal kicking midfielder or attacking defender, like martin he has high footy iq, can find pathways forward and he has great foot skills. He is one of the youngest in his draft year. Didn’t get a great chance to play major onball roles in the Metro side to show off to recruiters. will be hard to crack into the side next year though.
I Kind if expect Clarke to follow a similar timeline to Redman. Probably needs 2 years of VFL to build up his body to rigours of afl. Its great that he already has a great tank.
if injuries occur he could probably play a half back role if he is doing well at VFL level. Roberts came in a bit light and performed well, but he had a lot of good vfl form behind him too.
I get the excitement about new toys under the draft tree, but history suggests Zac Johnson pick 70, would be an outlier to even reach 30 games of senior footy in his career.
History suggests that Kako will become an injury prone player. Clarke and Gerreyn inconsistent players and the rest delisted within 2 years where blitz will nominate them as deadwood.
Interested to follow this fellas EFC journey and development. Liked what he showed and comes across in the vids . Loksa balanced footy player. Not a lot from the sim sessions but maybe he gets a few minutes at the Dogs hitout?
Go well young man. If a chance comes your way up back or flank/wing just go for it. A Duz Mk II one day would suit me fine.
It would be nice if we got a selection bolter that comes out of nowhere and gets games. The freshen up of the team, add that youth and enthusiasm, create more competition for a spot in the side.
He was one of my favourites going into the draft. Turned in consistently excellent performances at the Champs for a SA team that had a midfield only running one way completely exposing their back line. He was one of few capable of shutting down his man in the air and on the ground, then able to find the ball and get dangerous. He’s intense, competitive, above average with the footy in space and obviously an elite endurance athlete.
Anything can happen with draftees there are no guarantees but I’m confident in Angus.
I really liked Oliver but knew he’d go before our 2nd rounders, so had been hoping for Clarke to still be there and have been really impressed with how he’s looked so far.
Yep Harry Oliver is a very similar type of prospect. A better pedigree as a junior for Oliver coming up through the grades playing rep teams and for the Dragons… but the traits for the two are very similar. Will be interesting to track and compare their progress.
