#37 Nic Martin - all of the extension, pls

I would.
Even the majority of Collingwood supporters seem to believe Martin deserves it…

Fantastic first game. Such a clean finisher.

He absolutely deserves it.

Im just so used to essendon being screwed over

Martin would probably get over looked becuase he was in a side that got thrashed

Nah when it comes to the Rising Star Nominations they always have a leaning towards giving it to lesser credentialed guys early on if at all they can because they know that the top few draft picks (Daicos, Horne-Francis etc) will generally churn out plenty of matches worthy of a nomination throughout the season.

The AFL does NOT pre-determine results.

Having watched Martin throughout the pre season I can understand why he wasn’t picked up earlier.

He was always a very nice neat kick but nothing else really stood out about him and said ‘pick me’.

That was until the fullscale trial matches started. The first intra club was very much like today, in that it was very much a first 18 versus the rest, and the first 18 were smashing the other team with the exception of Martin, who continually found himself in good positions, got a stack of the ball and kicked 4.

That really made me take notice in future games, and I watched him very closely after that. In the second intra club game it seemed all we were saying was ‘Martin’s got it again’, and he bascially carried on in similar form in the practice matches against Footscray and St Kilda and again today.

What he does as well as anyone is position himself around a contest superbly. He goes for the hard ball when he has to but when not in the contest he has a knack of spreading to be the perfect option to be used, not too close so he will be immediately tackled, and not too far away that it’s difficult to get to him or see him. And he has this ability to read the play better than anyone else and bob up miles clear of anyone, often very deep forward.

I think he will be one of those players that play better amongst better players, as they are less likely to fumble and more likely to be able to execute an accurate disposal to get it to him when in the clear.

It will be interesting to see where he goes from here, as opposition clubs will no doubt pay him a lot more attention in the future and give him less space.

Should give him the number 33. Very caracella like in everything he does.
Plus the Tinkerbell wearing 33 at the moment doesn’t deserve it

He will get Essingtoned soon. Happy you got picked up kid, but sorry it’s the wrong club.

Put $50 on him for the rising star last week. He’s gone from $150 to $8. Contemplating cashing out.

Trust me, opposition clubs pay equal attention to every player in the 22, whether they’re a first gamer or a 30 year old veteran. As soon as his selection was announced earlier in the week Geelong would have been looking at videos of Martin to determine what sort of threat he posed. He was just better on the day than his opponents

Having said that, you’re probably right in so far as he will likely get better quality match up next week

Equal attention! No team does that nor should they, if we put the same amount of attention into Dangerfield as we did Jack Henry then our coaches should face the firing squad!!

Equal attention :joy:

Loved his debut, wish he’d laid a tackle though. Always HATE seeing guys who haven’t laid a tackle in a blow out loss.

But otherwise he looked absolutely mint

$150? Jeepers.

What’s your cash out figure?

He did lay a tackle. Was HTB for mine but the ump paid in the back. He’d have been lining up for number 6 if it went his way!

On track for 100+ goals this season. This excites me.

I was surprised they didn’t record a tackle for Martin as I’m sure I saw him lay one good tackle in the last quarter.

I hope Kyle Langford eventually becomes the next Nick Martin.

Depends on how he wants to spell it. His name is Nicholas. Nick has always been a valid abbreviation for Nicholas.
